Ayesleigh is a city in western Rivain.

Background[]

Ayesleigh is a city in western Rivain, close to the neighboring Antiva.

In the Black Age, Asha Subira Bahadur became the Gana of Ayesleigh,[1][2] which was presumably a position of authority given Rivain's matriarchal nature.[3] The matriarchs of Rivain then arranged a marriage between the young Gana of Ayesleigh and the crown prince of Antiva.[2]

In 5:24 Exalted, the final battle of the Fourth Blight took place in the city of Ayesleigh. Garahel, an elven Grey Warden, slew Archdemon Andoral, ending the Blight.[1][4][5] The king of Antiva, Azar Adalberto Campana, led the Antivan army in the battle. Lambert Valmont's distinguished service during the battle paved the way for the rise of the Valmont dynasty in Orlais.[6]

In 9:40 Dragon, the Chantry sent a Seekers of Truth division from Ayesleigh to investigate the Circle of Magi in Dairsmuid. They decided to annul the Circle.[7]

By 5:24 Exalted, the darkspawn had finally been pushed back to Rivain and Antiva. The allied forces decided to use this opportunity to try and bring the Archdemon itself to battle at Ayesleigh and thus end the Blight. At this point, the city was largely in ruins, and both sides of the battle would use its narrow streets to their advantage. Garahel led a strike force of Grey Wardens on griffons to the skies above Ayesleigh. The Wardens barraged the city using dwarven explosives, causing empty shops and houses to collapse onto the darkspawn. The darkspawn had no real way to combat the airborne Wardens, and the Archdemon was forced to take the field.

The Wardens struck, aiming to infuriate the beast and lure it back to their ground troops. However, they lost control of the rabid griffons, splintering their strike force. Only a handful of griffons followed the withdrawal formation while the rest frantically assaulted the Archdemon. Cut off from their support, the Wardens concentrated all their riders on attacking Andoral. Although most of them were killed during the ensuing battle, the unusual ferocity of rabid griffons proved highly effective tearing out chunks of the Archdemon's flesh, and with support of the archers and mages the Wardens managed to collapse one of its wings. Andoral was sent hurtling down and crashed into the streets of Ayesleigh. The Wardens advanced on the city to finish their task, only to discover that Andoral had led them into a trap of its own; its flight had led the Wardens head first into range of legions of darkspawn archers hiding in destroyed buildings. The Wardens took further casualties.

Isseya then released the rest of the raging griffons, forcing Andoral to retreat. The Archdemon flew over to the docks, where it maneuvered between the shipwrecks. The remaining Grey Wardens had to take on the darkspawn archers and pursue Andoral above Rialto Bay. With only three Wardens left after this final pursuit, Garahel decided to deal the final blow.[8]
