Varathorn is the master dalish craftsman at the Dalish Camp located in the Brecilian Outskirts of Ferelden.
Involvement[]
If the Warden is of Dalish origin, Varathorn will mention his Sabrae counterpart, Master Ilen, and impart some information about the Warden's father. Regardless, the Warden can trade with Varathorn; he stocks an infinite supply of elfroot, deathroot, and toxin extracts.
Varathorn will offer the Warden the quest Rare Ironbark, and will offer to craft something from the ironbark should it be acquired.
Quests[]
Access to the store[]
If the Clan Attitude is low, Varathorn will refuse to barter with the Warden. See Dalish Camp for further details.
Note: Should the Warden be denied access to the store, it is possible to regain access by giving Varathorn the ironbark without requesting an item in exchange.
Inventory[]
Varathorn carries unlimited Deathroot, Toxin Extract and Elfroot.
Initial[]
After three main quests[]
Note: The Silver Brooch is no longer available after the Warden completes two main quests.
Quotes[]
- Varathorn: You're not smelting ore like a durgen'len! This is living wood! It requires patience and delicate hands, not more heat!
- Oghren: Hmph. Elves and their wood-shaping. It's unnatural. Why use wood when you've got perfectly good metal and stone?
- Varathorn: Spoken like a true child of the stone, my friend.
- Oghren: Who you calling a child, old man?
Notes[]
- If the player agrees to massacre the Dalish with the werewolves during Nature of the Beast, Varathorn will be one of those the player must fight and slaughter alongside their werewolf allies.
- If Varathorn is killed, the Warden can loot Varathorn's Dar'Misu and Elfrope from his corpse.
Trivia[]
- The Toolset contains an item called Varathorn's Gems, which seem to be unused during gameplay and unobtainable under normal circumstances.
- In the Dalish Elf Origin quest, if the Warden tells Tamlen to talk so it will calm him down, he asks why the Warden is accompanying him, since they were supposed to have been with Varathorn.
