Welcome Edit

Hi, welcome to the Dragon Age Wiki! Thanks for joining! I hope that you will stick around and continue to help us improve the wiki. Please leave a message on my talk page if I can help with anything! -- Tierrie (Talk) 20:11, 5 September 2010

Hey there, I know you just joined the wiki, but, based on the experience you have in editing wikis and your comments on your own wiki, I'd like to find out if you're interested in helping me out with the templates and stylesheets on this one. I'm not sure if its going to be this round or the next as I prefer to get to know the person I'm sponsoring before I do that. Are you interested? -- tierrie talk contr 18:58, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

Since there are already two active admins and an established community, I'll back out on this for now (perhaps in the future, perhaps not). Moreover, if two new administrators supported by the community are added soon, I think that would be the wisest choice. Regardless of my status on the wiki, I will gladly help with templates and stylesheets, and tidying the wiki. I'll be poking you guys when I need your assistance on things I cannot do. :] --D. (talk · contr) 21:21, September 15, 2010 (UTC)
I'm with you there. Sounds good to me ;) I didn't realize you had just' marked Timeline of Thedas as delete. That info seems important and semi-canon. We should keep it around if its not a violation of copyright. -- tierrie talk contr 22:10, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

Bot bot! Edit

One thing that's consistently irked me is the random usage of +5 dexterity vs +5 Dexterity. +5 Stam Regen vs +5 Stamina Regeneration in Combat. Can you sic the bot on those capitalizations? -- tierrie talk contr 20:16, September 16, 2010 (UTC)

I've taken a quick glance on the stats on some weapon pages, and a lot of them aren't in sic. By capitalization, you mean you'd like them to be in uppercase (as they appear in-game)? --D. (talk · contr) 20:37, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
Technically speaking, they appear in lowercase in-game. --D. (talk · contr) 20:41, September 16, 2010 (UTC)
I'm okay either way - so long as its consistent. Lets go with lowercase since they use lowercase in game. -- tierrie talk contr 21:16, September 16, 2010 (UTC)

No Image Edit

Where there isn't any images you can use either File:NoImage.jpg or File:NoImage2.jpg as a placeholder. It was used extensively in the early days and can still serve the same purpose. Thanks for bringing the "add image to gallery" issue to my attention. I fixed it and as you said, !important was necessary. -- tierrie talk contr 20:00, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

There was also an issue where it used the original (very very old) fallout 3 style that User:Ausir imported to get us kick started on our tables. I deleted that recently and thought I found everything. Just to be sure, can you have your bot scan all Templates for "FO3-infobox-title"? -- tierrie talk contr 20:04, September 22, 2010 (UTC)
I think I've removed them all. My bot doesn't have a flag yet (Wikia taking their sweet time?), but since it was a small task, I did it anyway. --D. (talk · contr) 21:15, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

By the way, you may or may not have mispelt Enchantment on your User page.. ssssh and feel free to delete this message ;) -- tierrie talk contr 20:08, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

Lol, talk about fail. Thanks for telling me! :D--D. (talk · contr) 21:15, September 22, 2010 (UTC)

I was looking through Gamefaqs for Mass Effect recently and Mass Effect's Weapon and Ability Achievements Guide. That's when I realized that the one NavBox that I would like to use is "Guides" one. I mocked one up really quickly and would like you to suggest some other things I can put in there, or take out. -- tierrie talk contr 22:59, September 27, 2010 (UTC)

I don't have a particular opinion regarding the navbox for now, but if I do, I'll leave them on the template talk page. --D. (talk · contr) 03:50, September 28, 2010 (UTC)

Community Stickies Edit

There used to be a page called MediaWiki:CommunityStickies where an admin could add a "note" that the users would see when they logged into their pages. We used to use it to point towards articles that could use work. Do you know if that still exists? Or if that mechanic has been superceded by another page? -- tierrie talk contr 03:34, September 28, 2010 (UTC)

This is one of the unsuccessful/unpopular feature of MyHome that got the axe without an announcement made. I never used it, so I don't know when they actually got removed. --D. (talk · contr) 03:50, September 28, 2010 (UTC)

Quote Edit

I lowered the protection level on {{Quote}}. Feel free to make changes. -- tierrie talk contr 18:29, October 10, 2010 (UTC)

I also lowered the protection level on {{DoNotUse}}. I'll move its documentation to it to doc when I get back. -- tierrie talk contr 18:33, October 10, 2010 (UTC)
Alright, thanks for notifying me. :] --D. (talk · contr) 18:55, October 10, 2010 (UTC)
I've decided to make some changes to {{DoNotUse}}, and also included the doc page already, so you won't have to do it. --D. (talk · contr) 21:15, October 10, 2010 (UTC)

Splatter Background on daotableEdit

Have you noticed that the splatter background has gone missing on the daotables? And did the wiki also suddenly changed back to Monaco for you this morning? -- tierrie talk contr 20:48, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

Found the problem. Wikia added a css style for .wikitable where it previously did not. This overrides our daotable's background image. Can you use the bot to do a scan and get a list of pages that has tables that use the class wikitable? -- tierrie talk contr 21:06, October 13, 2010 (UTC)
There are some templates that use wikitable only but have style, e.g. Template:CharacterDisplay. I don't know what's the CSS style for .wikitable. I've left them just in case you wanted to do something with it. Otherwise, all pages within the main namespace and template have been updated. --D. (talk · contr) 00:28, October 14, 2010 (UTC)
I don't know what it used to be but they updated it so that it is now
table.wikitable { background: black; border-collapse: collapse; border: 1px #404040 solid; margin: 1em 1em 1em 0; }
table.wikitable th, table.wikitable td { border: 1px black solid; padding: 0.2em; }
table.wikitable th { background: black; text-align: center; }
table.wikitable caption { font-weight: bold; }
As a result, it forces all wikitables to have black background and black borders. -- tierrie talk contr 01:35, October 14, 2010 (UTC)
I have removed them from the templates since it did screw up how the templates were intended to look. --D. (talk · contr) 02:04, October 14, 2010 (UTC)
Nice! Thanks for the help -- tierrie talk contr 19:44, October 14, 2010 (UTC)

Some players are using transcluding Guardian instead of Guardian (Specialization). That net result is that they don't get the nifty icon when they are transcluding it as a miniicon, plus, it doesn't link to the right article. I have been thinking of moving Guardian to Guardian (The Urn of Sacred Ashes) or Guardian (Disciple) and then moving Guardian (Specialization) to Guardian. Do you think the bot can handle the link changes? -- tierrie talk contr 19:44, October 14, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I can do it. Tell me when you've done the move. A third option for the new name could be "Guardian (character)". --D. (talk · contr) 20:50, October 14, 2010 (UTC)
Done. Go ahead and run the bot. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tierrie (talkcontribs)
Done. Links that were on user talk pages and forum posts have not been updated (I don't think I'm allowed to edit comments, and my bot will bump the forum posts... bad!). --D. (talk · contr) 06:35, October 15, 2010 (UTC)

Wikia RulesEdit

Do you happen to know where the rules are for what we can or cannot do with our front page? I want to see what the options were before I started mocking up new front pages. -- tierrie talk contr 05:27, October 15, 2010 (UTC)

I don't believe there are any rules regarding the front page, unless it breaks the ToU (which is can be summed up to "don't hide ads or change/hide something on the skin"). --D. (talk · contr) 06:35, October 15, 2010 (UTC)

Custom skins Edit

I'm in the process of modularizing the front page so we can rearrange the elements. Wikia used to have per-user css files at User:Tierrie/monaco.css. I looked through the source and can't find the corresponding css file for the new skin. Where do you put your css file? -- tierrie talk contr 20:39, October 18, 2010 (UTC)

It's /wikia.css (lowercase). I don't know if they enabled it, but I was never able to actually get the CSS work when I was previewing it. I suggest using Stylish (with using !important to override everything) if you are using Firefox. --D. (talk · contr) 22:24, October 18, 2010 (UTC)

Main page colorsEdit

Are the colors more in line with what you had in mind? -- tierrie talk contr 18:16, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

Portal Edits Edit

I put up a help page that includes links to most of the portal. I am also including an edit link to the DA2 and DA portal so people can edit it. Since DAO and Main seems mature, I am going to leave the edit links out.

I've been thinking of making more portals. One for classes that includes the 3 main classes, all the specialization and the skills/talents. Does anything else come to mind? -- tierrie talk contr 09:17, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

Are you talking about the portals for the sliders? I'm wondering if too many would be redundant for linking, e.g. I was going to suggest a portal for equipment, but then it's already linked on DAO (and will be on DA2 when the game is released).
As for suggestions, all of the popular links can actually be loaded in the slider, but I'd strongly push for an Awakening one. If there's going to be more portals, there should be tabs so it'd be easier to navigate to a specific portal or a "return" button to a master tab linking to each portal, so you don't have to click on the previous/next buttons. Right now it's fine since there's only 4 tabs to navigate, not too many clicking.
On an unrelated note, I just realized that Wikia has reworked on Special:ListUsers, but it's quite different than the previous one, so it's currently with the default colors. --D. (talk · contr) 21:45, October 27, 2010 (UTC)
I don't quite like tabs the way they are implemented at the moment but I feel like the one at Wikia Central has merit. That's not going to be extremely difficult and that's something I am interested in doing when I find the time. -- tierrie talk contr 00:03, November 13, 2010 (UTC)

Dragonwing vs Dragon Wing Edit

I noticed that some pages were using the qualitative descriptor "Dragonwing" instead of "Dragon Wing". I believe Awakening uses "Dragon Wing" for Tier 8 leather, so could you have the bot check this? Thanks! -- tierrie talk contr 01:07, November 9, 2010 (UTC)

Done. --D. (talk · contr) 01:21, November 9, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for taking care of it :) -- tierrie talk contr 00:01, November 13, 2010 (UTC)

Requires X DLC Edit

I noticed some inconsistency in the way the DLC's write their descriptions. I found some DLC that has the "Requires X DLC" in the description section when it should be in the notes section. Others don't have them at all. Assuming the items are categorized properly, can you see if it is easy to put the "Requires Golems of Amgarrak DLC." in the notes field?

Plus, I also noticed that the appearances tend to link both Dragon Age: Origins - Witch Hunt for items that appear only in Witch Hunt. I believe that in those cases the link for Origins should be removed unless it is also available in Origins. Otherwise it might be a tad bit confusing.

If you could sic the bot on this, I would very much appreciate it. Thanks! -- tierrie talk contr 00:00, November 13, 2010 (UTC)

I couldn't find any articles that had "Requires x DLC" in the description field, except Robes of Avernus (which I've updated). I've checked for all pages that are categorized in Category:Downloadable content.
For the appearance link, is the "Dragon Age: Origins" supposed to be included with the DLC part? Unlike the Awakening expansion, the "DAO" part isn't actually part of the title, so I'm wondering if the way it is listed should be changed. Some pages list it with the DAO part, others do not (e.g. Spear-Thrower). If the item also appears in the Origins and the DLC, I think they should actually be separated by a new line. --D. (talk · contr) 01:40, November 13, 2010 (UTC)
Another question regarding the appearance field. Some items from DLCs that aren't other campaigns like GoA are listed like "Dragon Age: Origins - Return to Ostagar" (e.g., Cailan's Shield), or just "Dragon Age: Origins" (e.g., Maric's Blade). Which one is the "good" one? --D. (talk · contr) 04:07, November 13, 2010 (UTC)
I didn't see that you had replied to my message :) If Robes of Avernus is all you found then I must have gotten most of it during my manual pass. I had originally thought that the "Dragon Age: Origins" part be unlinked, but upon further though your suggestion that the entire line is a single link would make more sense. It gets complicated because most items ARE found in Origins and all the DLC. For example, Leather Gloves would be one of them. I think to be absolutely accurate they are in Origins and all the DLC. But, that would just lead to lots and lots of lines. Any thoughts? -- tierrie talk contr 10:04, November 14, 2010 (UTC)

Butterfly Sword Edit

I recently edited the article "Butterfly sword", because wile I was playing I noticed that the article said that it requires 38 strength, while in the game it stood 32. Unless it requires different strength depending on your level or console, it is incorrect that it requires 38 strength. Rojorana (talk) 21:38, December 30, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, it depends on your level (I've checked in-game after your edit with a lower character: it required 28 str). Currently, the article lists information for the tier 7 (the last tier for DA:O), so to keep it consistent, it's been changed back to 38 str. --D. (talk · contr) 21:43, December 30, 2010 (UTC)

Rollback? Edit

Thanks for all the great you've been doing on the wiki. I've noticed a few instances where you've reverted multiple edits, so if you'd like rollback to help with that, just say the word Smiley. Friendship smallLoleil Talk 02:22, December 31, 2010 (UTC)

That would be handy. Thank you! --D. (talk · contr) 02:27, December 31, 2010 (UTC)
Done. Friendship smallLoleil Talk 02:31, December 31, 2010 (UTC)

Oghren edit Edit

You should read the edit I made again. The only bug listed on that page is the one about retaining the diminishing returns from Origins, which is not what the note I added was about. Mine was that the items that gave an extra +5 approval specific to Oghren in Origins do NOT give the extra +5 in Awakening --Gimmethegepgun (talk) 02:01, January 2, 2011 (UTC)

My bad; I've added the information you have written, but changed the wording to avoid future possible confusion (as a note, under "Origins"). --D. (talk · contr) 02:23, January 2, 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing D.A.2 Companions Edit

Thanks for fixing my screw up on the D.A.2 Companions page, can't say I know how it happened though. I was trying to switch Aveline's pic with one Though showed more of her face but I guess it backfired XP, anyway thanks again!!!--J Shepard (talk) 23:45, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

No problem! :] It was just about adding a whitespace for the link in the gallery, e.g. | link=Warrior as opposed to |link=Warrior. --D. (talk · contr) 23:48, January 8, 2011 (UTC)

Twinblade Edit

Hello. I saw you deleted my contribution to Twinblade, about the possible reference to Fable, and I just wanted to point out that it's not just the name that they share, Twinblade from Fable dual-wielded two swords. I just wanted to point that out, I don't want to come across as pushy or defensive of my contributions. It can clearly be seen that this, editing your talk page, is only my second edit. I just thought I'd tell you this in case it changes anything. Sorry for the bother. -XHobbes (talk) 04:29, January 9, 2011 (UTC)

Don't worry, it's completely fine that you've addressed this on my talk page (the article's talk page would also be fine, as it would more "public", sort of); it's not unusual to do so.
As for the dagger, I do not believe it is enough to constitute trivia, per DA:TRIVIA, unless you have an official source (from a Dragon Age developer) that they have named the item because of Fable. --D. (talk · contr) 04:40, January 9, 2011 (UTC)

Autocomplete and Disambiguation Edit

Hey D-Day! I saw the massive amount of changes you've made in the past month. I don't know what we'd do without you :) Two things:

  1. I fixed the autocomplete bug today so it works now. If you encounter issues let me know and I will try to replicate them.
  2. There's a thread going on Forum:New changes to the pages due to upcoming DA2 that I'd like your feedback on. I noticed that you changed the disambiguation to (Dragon Age II) and I liked that we are on the same page on the subject of consistent. You could say we are consistent on being consistent! *drumroll* Let us know what you think as I appreciate your opinion.

Cheers! -- tierrie talk contr 20:57, January 11, 2011 (UTC)

Yay, thanks! There's one slight problem when you type it from the main page, it has to do with the slideshow gallery. If you type the letter "v" (for example), the search suggest list goes under the slideshow.
And I've replied to the thread earlier today, heh. --D. (talk · contr) 21:11, January 11, 2011 (UTC)

Spell Summary Edit

I removed my edits from the Spells page. It now has only the icons and names as it did before. The information on the Spell Summary page has the description of the spells on it. I'm sorry if you feel that it isn't a significant enough difference to warrant a separate page, but I disagree.Cariban (talk) 16:35, January 14, 2011 (UTC)

Regardless of what we both think, you should not remove the deletion tag until a consensus is reached. I have put it up so that other contributors also add their own comments on the proposal. Please do no remove it, thanks! --D. (talk · contr) 16:54, January 14, 2011 (UTC)

Blood Magic in DA II Edit

Hey if you could possibly check out the Blood Magic page - I recently added a source for my earlier comments to the Bioware forums, with proof confirming that Merrill is a Blood your opinion do you think that this article is up to par for this Blood Magic page? Or do you think I need to find another article to use as my source for this information. Thanks for takin the time to read this!!! Arctistor23 (talk) 21:55, January 17, 2011 (UTC)

If you can find a better source, it'll replace it since this is a third party source. The best would be a developer's post, or press release, or the actual article (which I don't think anyone has?). I think it's fine, although I guess some people may not agree with it (because of claims of a magazine that Fenris was a mage, when he wasn't). If it's removed again, it will probably be brought on the article's talk page. --D. (talk · contr) 22:32, January 17, 2011 (UTC)

Thank you very much for responding, I will search for a better source. But until then, I will leave it as is for the moment Arctistor23 (talk) 23:04, January 17, 2011 (UTC)

Disambiguation Edit

Hey D-day, are we using (Dragon Age: Origins) for disambiguation now or was that just a mistake? Could you point me to the discussion where that happen so I can catch up? -- tierrie talk contr 09:38, January 19, 2011 (UTC)

There wasn't any discussion actually. Snfonseka understood that it was the full title "Origins", although I always thought it was still "Origins"; so there is some confusion regarding that. It's somewhat discussed on Forum:New changes to the pages due to upcoming DA2. You should reply what you think is best too (that, and categories as well). --D. (talk · contr) 12:01, January 19, 2011 (UTC)
I lowered the protection on the pages you requested. Have fun! -- tierrie talk contr 03:54, January 20, 2011 (UTC)

Laneagle (talk) 20:08, January 21, 2011 (UTC)how do you get the grand cleric robesLaneagle (talk) 20:08, January 21, 2011 (UTC)

I don't think you actually can. All I know is that it's in the toolset. --D. (talk · contr) 20:10, January 21, 2011 (UTC)

Lowtown Edit

Hello. I have read the article called Lowtown, and since there are no sources cited, I'm very curious: where do you get such a detailed description of locations like that? I assume you wrote it, because when googling portions of the article i can't find an official source, just some blogs that apparently copied it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by S0meguy (talkcontribs) 09:19, January 23, 2011 (UTC)

I actually didn't add the description, but it's from the UK version of the website. --D. (talk · contr) 12:56, January 23, 2011 (UTC)

Romance Edit

Your an idiot.Everybody knows about the isabela romance. It is very likely about anders and merrill. They both are seen in origins(merrill) and awakening(anders) to want a romance.Merrill is seen in the cutscene end of the dalish elf origin and presumed wich is most likely to have a romance with the player.many times in awakening anders mentions how he want to settle down and hawke is most likely not a warden and can have children, wich shows that anders can be one of the romances. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thelonestar (talkcontribs) 19:15, February 8, 2011

I never said that Isabela was not a romance option. The others have not been confirmed by the developers at the time I edited the page. Regardless if they are romance options in the game, you need to give an official source. Otherwise, they are treated as fan speculation and will be removed. --D. Nice work with the talents Edit

Awesome work you did there, I was curious where you got the tree screenshots though, it seems I missed a video or a preview somewhere. VeNiX (talk) 20:56, February 9, 2011 (UTC)

If you're referring to the warrior screenshots, they're from the official website. The rogue ones are from the videos (I think they either were from GiantBomb or GameTrailer, I can't remember which). I think these were shown very briefly. --D. (talk · contr) 21:05, February 9, 2011 (UTC)
Ah thanks, somehow they didn't link the screenshots in the class page and I rarely check the gallery there... thanks again :D VeNiX (talk) 21:08, February 9, 2011 (UTC)

Changes to the Template:ClassInfobox Edit

Hi, I have noticed that you have change the entire "Template:ClassInfobox". So according to my understanding that we have to add all the information to the page itself rather than allowing to template to automatically appear all the relevant information and images. Personally I prefer the old setup where you have all the information in one single location.

Also I haven't notice any forum thread regarding this modification. So I like to request that you let other admins know and get their feedback first, before you are going to do this kind of complete change. TC. -- Snfonseka (Talk) 06:20, February 13, 2011 (UTC)

I just opened a new forum thread for this (Forum:Changes to Template:ClassInfobox). -- Snfonseka (Talk) 07:03, February 13, 2011 (UTC)

Meanwhile, I noticed that some new categories (Category:Dragon Age II gameplay‎ and Category:Dragon Age II game rules‎) were just created. Enlarge Dragon Age II icons in the Infobox Edit

Hello my friend ;), and congratulation for your admin nomination!

I have a small problem that I can't solve. I upload two icons of Dragon Age II, better quality than the previous and larger, but they appear small in the infobox. I don't know how to make them bigger, with the " px " system, it doesn't work, do you know how?

Thanks in advance and see you soon! Itachou [~talk~] 00:23, February 20, 2011 (UTC)

The icon are set to a certain width for infobox, so you cannot make them bigger. This is to keep them consistent, so they have to be cropped in a certain way. I suggest that you remove the black border for the icons, since it's used for all icons (I think this is an interface border, like the one in DA:O). I think the black border could be added with CSS in the future. --D. (talk · contr) 00:34, February 20, 2011 (UTC)

Hi D-Day, I've noticed some of your posts and I realized that you are a very knowledgeable person on this wiki. I was just wondering if you could tell me what this symbol means: '<!- -'. If there is somewhere where I could look up stuff like this, I do not know, so sorry for any trouble :P Thanks. --Davilimap (talk) 00:22, February 27, 2011 (UTC)

It's actually for HTML, but it can be in used for wikis (well, the MediaWiki's, I don't know if it works for other softwares). It's left for comments that will be hidden when viewed normally, but can be viewed when you are editing the page, so this is mostly for contributors. It can be safely removed too, it won't break anything. --D. (talk · contr) 00:30, February 27, 2011 (UTC)
Aaah, that makes sense. Thanks! --Davilimap (talk) 00:32, February 27, 2011 (UTC)

Piracy Edit

A reader brought raised the issue about a user that openly professes to pirate the game. I checked his logs and it appears that the user is primarily a forum contributor and doesn't contribute to articles. I wanted to see what you thought about that. And to what level should we discourage such behavior? Furious frowning? A warning? A ban? What are your thoughts? -- tierrie talk contr 00:11, March 5, 2011 (UTC)

Slapping his fingers!
But seriously, only a warning for talking openly about it. I believe banning should only be used for disruptive behavior for the wiki. If he uses pirated versions of whatever, then that his choices. If he is linking to websites for the pirated version of anything though, then a small block may be handed, although I'd personally warn first, and if it is a repetitive behavior, then a ban. --D. (talk · contr) 03:08, March 5, 2011 (UTC)

Warrior Specializations In DA2Edit

Hi. I made a few pages, and since they are pretty terrible, you usually fix them like 5 seconds later, lol, so im just gonna let you start them. Here is information for all the warrior specializations in DA2, they are all in thislink: Templar, Reaver, and Berserker. Thanks. Subject 14 (talk) 03:58, March 6, 2011 (UTC)

Arctistor23 already gave me a link. I don't know how fast I'll be since there's other things I want to take care of, or if I'll have time to add all the specializations (it's a huge workload); someone will probably do it if I don't.
It's pretty easy to make pages if you just copy/paste the code from another similar page to another, e.g., I'd use Healing Aura as a base for spell for another Spirit Healer's spell, or just change some words so it works for Force Mage. --D. (talk · contr) 04:06, March 6, 2011 (UTC)

lol sorry I just saw the message above me, sorry for reposting more info lol Subject 14 (talk) 04:41, March 6, 2011 (UTC)

Spoilers filtering into the articles Edit

I deleted an edit that the user Ironreaper made to the Flemeth article. Now I know that there have been alot of spoilers that appear to be true (just in case you wish to be spoil free I wont go into which they are). The thing is that he cited a video of a bootlegged version of the game (too early to have it and whatnot) that he got from Arctistor23. I am unsure if I am overreacting so I wish to see what you think. Balitant (talk) 05:58, March 6, 2011 (UTC)

No, you are not overreacting and you are right to have removed them. Regardless if the spoilers are true or not (I didn't check the edits), if they are obtained from an illegal source, they must be removed. Adding them and linking to a video of a pirate version of the game is basically saying we're okay with that, which we're obviously not. --D. (talk · contr) 06:04, March 6, 2011 (UTC)

Anders bisexuality Edit

Even if the video was a bootleg version, Ander is still bi. Can we at least keep the info up, and get rid of the bootleg link, until we get the actual confirmation? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Arctistor23 (talkcontribs) 06:22, March 6, 2011 (UTC)

Like you said, until we get the actual confirmation, it will not pass as a legitimate claim for most users if there are no source (and will be treated as speculation, and thus removed). I'm not saying the video of the pirated game is false or whatnot, but since piracy discussions are not allowed on the wiki, I believe linking to a video of a pirated version isn't either (I'm aware there are no policies regarding that, and that will eventually be rectified). --D. (talk · contr) 06:30, March 6, 2011 (UTC)

Very well, considering all the trouble and mayhem I cause yesterday with that video link, I'll leave all spoilering in your very capable hands. Arctistor23 (talk) 14:41, March 6, 2011 (UTC)

We can't do anything regarding ads (we don't control them, Wikia does), but if you use Firefox, you can use AdBlock Plus. --D. (talk · contr) 04:39, March 8, 2011 (UTC)

Piracy guidelinesEdit

The following message was distributed among all active admins.

Hi, due to the concerns regarding "piracy" the following guideline was prepared in order to avoid the lengthy discussions and unnecessary ambiguity regarding the actions need to be taken, when there is a "piracy issue". Please go through them and make your ideas/ suggestions in the "comment section" in the page. I am looking forward to gather your feedbacks and modify the guideline if necessary, before taking this to the next step; which is the "forum discussion".

Editing Fenris Edit

Hi, Totally new to editing wikis, I tried to edit the page on Fenris but even though I can see what I typed in the edit field, it doesn't show on the actual page. The header I put does show but not tthe edited content. Obviosly I messed up but I don't know what I did. Any help? Thanks :) --Mrskrios (talk) 19:27, March 10, 2011 (UTC)

Your edit has actually been saved, but it's hidden by the spoiler tag, which starts with {{SpoilerDA2 and ends with }}. Since your edit is not a spoiler, you don't need to include the content within the spoiler tag; you just need to move the content below these tags. --D. (talk · contr) 19:35, March 10, 2011 (UTC)

No gift page for Dragon Age 2, can we make one? Edit

Thank you for your help with Fenris' page!

I've noticed that there's no link to the "gifts" in Dragon Age 2. Since I'm new I don't want to mess up anything, but is there a way to add a page discussing the new gift system and where to find the gifts for each companion in Dragon Age 2, something that can be linked to the Gift icon on the main wiki page?

--Mrskrios (talk) 20:05, March 10, 2011 (UTC)

Don't worry about "messing up"; other contributors will fix anything if needed and expand/improve the article. You can start it by creating Gifts (Dragon Age II). Someone (or I) will most likely turn Gifts as a disambiguation page to link to all gifts page (Origins, Awakening and DA2). --D. (talk · contr) 20:12, March 10, 2011 (UTC)

Done! Thank you so much for the help! --Mrskrios (talk) 20:25, March 10, 2011 (UTC)

Huge text Edit

So, for some reason, the page seemed to augment in size. Like instead of a size 10 - 12 letter, it's now about twice as big which annoys me to no end. I was making my first edit in this wiki (hope it helped :)) and all of a sudden the text became huge. I was wondering if you probably knew what my issue is and how to revert it back to normal since it doesn't seem to happen in other wikis, just this one. Thanks. DA2 Main Quests PageEdit

Hi! Was trying to edit the Dragon Age 2 quest page and it seems to be have errors. Dont know if its just my browser but there seems to be a whole paragraph in the actual page and it doesnt show up in the edit page. Weird. even the Categories are all effed up. Thanks!

--Razzy1319 (talk) 10:52, March 13, 2011 (UTC)

This is due to pages being transcluded on the main quests page, and a contributor not using the categories as intented. It has been taken care of. --D. (talk · contr) 15:47, March 13, 2011 (UTC)

Custom characters for screenshots Edit

Just wanted to clarify, is it ok to put images with customized main characters on the wiki? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 13xforever (talkcontribs) 17:45, March 16, 2011 (UTC)

If it's in your userpage, yes.
On mainspace articles, no, per editing guidelines. If the picture has a customized character, it should eventually be removed. I am not sure about using a default Hawke (male or female, with or without blood smear) though. I think the only exceptions that is okay to use customized characters are for item sets (for showing the armor), although I honestly do not know if it's really an exception (it's a bit hard to take a screenshot without taking the character's face and all). --D. Bug in the Side Quest page for DAII Edit

Hi, been using Wikia for lotsa games for a while, and thought I'd help out with DAII, to give back, ya know?

Anyway, I'm having trouble with the Side Quests page. There's some kinda glitch/bug that's pulling the info from the The Lost Swords quest page into the main page. I'm new to this, so I can't find the problem.

Can you take a look?

Webgoof (talk) 23:36, March 17, 2011 (UTC)

I'll be fixing the culprits (unless someone does it before me).
To explain what is happening, the pages are transcluded on the side quests page. If they do not use the Template:QuestTransformer and that infobox is not surrounded by <onlyinclude></onlyinclude> tags, the whole page will be transcluded. You can see Fools Rush In as an example on how a quest article code should look like. --D. (talk · contr) 23:44, March 17, 2011 (UTC)

Infobox picturesEdit

Hello D-day ;) !

Ok I note, yes I think we should quickly make a policy. The Vault before personally used the politics of the image of the 1st appearance, and it just changed recently to that of the last appearance, minor or major.

I'm on in for the debate! Nice evening and see you soon my friend! Itachou [~talk~] 04:24, March 18, 2011 (UTC)

Making a new page, but it exists as a re-direct. Edit

I wish to create a new page for Arvaarad as he appears during the quest Shepherding Wolves. The only conflict is that for some reason Arvaarad exists as a re-direct for the Saarebas page. Considering that we have an appearance of an actual Arvaarad, and considering their role in qunari society, I feel there is enough information to warrant a page regarding them. Balitant (talk) 06:38, March 18, 2011 (UTC)

Are you asking me if it's okay to make the page, or to delete it? If it's the former, there is usually not a problem with making pages; you don't need to ask anyone if it's fine. If it's the latter, you just have to replace the content of Arvaarad with what you intend to add; there's no need for a deletion. --D. (talk · contr) 06:45, March 18, 2011 (UTC)
Bleh, sorry. Even after all this time editing I don't know all the tricks of the trade. I didn't know if I was able to make the page with the Arvaarad redirect in place actually on the redirect page itself. Well sorry for bothering you. Balitant (talk) 09:29, March 18, 2011 (UTC)

I was wondering, how do you guys do some theme designs on this wiki? How do you round the search boxes corner and make it look all cool? How do you make the color transparent?

Thanks, Bator.hos

This is done with the CSS stylesheets on the wiki. I can't explain all there is to it (because there's too much for that—best is to google it and learn from here). You can check the stylesheet of this skin on MediaWiki:Wikia.css. For the search box, Ctrl+F and look for "WikiaSearch". The section labeled "search" is what you want in particular. --D. Staves (Dragon Age II) Edit

I tried to make the page Staves (Dragon Age II) just like the original staves page for Origins, but it seems that you previously deleted that page, so the editor will not let me add it. Now that the game has been out for a few weeks, it's time we start making nice weapon/armor comparison pages, like Origins had. Can you "undelete" that page, so that contributors can make it just as useful as the Origins page was? (talk) 21:41, March 24, 2011 (UTC)

The page has been created; feel free to add content. --D. (talk · contr) 21:45, March 24, 2011 (UTC)
Wow, that was fast. Thanks. (talk) 21:50, March 24, 2011 (UTC)

Casting a wider net.. Edit

How do you connect the lines between items and general guide? By this I mean, for example, The Barbarian's Blade is a Greatsword in Dragon Age 2, but not in the list of Greatswords (Dragon Age II). How do I add it to the list for future seekers of bladed wisdom (ahem, i mean people who are looking for a list of greatswords)? Thanks for your time, much appreciated! --Irishpride78 (talk) 22:25, March 24, 2011 (UTC)

The easiest way to do it is to copy/paste the wikicode from one page to another. For example, use Staves (Dragon Age II) as a boilerplate, and remove/rewrite whatever information does not fit for Greatswords (Dragon Age II). I'll let you do it so you can try it out, but if you run into any issues, just tell me.
To help you make the list, you can find them at Category:Dragon Age II greatswords. However, not all greatswords are listed there (either because the pages have not been created, or the pages have not been categorized there). All greatswords from Dragon Age II should be categorized in that category only (if you see them categorized elsewhere, they should be removed). --D. (talk · contr) 22:40, March 24, 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, categorize is what I meant, but couldn't think of the word. So do I just put in Greatswords (Dragon Age II) in the the 'Category' space under the edit interface near the bottom of the page? --Irishpride78 (talk) 22:50, March 24, 2011 (UTC)
Yes. However, the category is "Dragon Age II greatswords". --D. (talk · contr) 22:51, March 24, 2011 (UTC)
Gotcha. Thanks again! ^_^ --Irishpride78 (talk) 22:54, March 24, 2011 (UTC)

chest piece vs. Chestpiece Edit

Lindianer has mentioned in my talk page, that there are some categories such as "Category: Light chest pieces" and "Heavy chest pieces", that divide the single word "Chestpiece" (in game) into two words. In his/ her opinion they should be renamed to be consistent with the ingame spelling. Since you have spent a lot of time with categories recently, I have decided to bring this question to you. Do we have any specific regulations regarding this kind of thing? -- Snfonseka (Talk) 09:43, March 25, 2011 (UTC)

Fool's Gold Edit

Hello, D-day.

I recently created five pages regarding characters involved in the quest Fool's Gold. A dwarf named Yevhen and his three sons: Merin, Emrys, and Iwan. I just wanted to give you a heads up that I may have gotten their ages mixed up. I called Merin the eldest but he may have been the middle child. Whereas I'm near positive that Iwan is the youngest. Because there's a big chance I'm wrong, I just wanted to tell you in case you know the correct order. I also created Dera, who I think is Yevhen's girlfriend or wife or something. I just said that she "appears to be his significant other". I hope that's okay.

I just wanted to make sure there are no problems here. Thanks.

-Sláinte mhaith! - Hobbes (Talk) 01:48, March 27, 2011 (UTC)

I never got to do this quest, so I wouldn't know.
If there's any mistake, someone will surely correct it. You don't need to tell me if you're unsure about something, but you can make a note of it by using using the Template:Confirm tag, or by leaving a note in the talk page of the article. --D. (talk · contr) 02:28, March 27, 2011 (UTC)

Can you give some editing tips? Edit

How does one add that a page needs pictures? I assume that there is a template for it like doing a spoiler or putting a delete request. I simply wish to add that a page I made needs pictures. Balitant (talk) 02:23, March 27, 2011 (UTC)

Just add, at the top of the page, {{pictures wanted}} (see Template:Pictures wanted).
Although you didn't ask, if it's the page needs an icon, you can use {{icon wanted}}, for |icon when there's an infobox (Template:Icon wanted). --D. (talk · contr) 02:28, March 27, 2011 (UTC)
Alright, danke. And thanks for the advice with the icons as well, as I'm pretty sure that the page Arvaarad needs that as well. Balitant (talk) 02:36, March 27, 2011 (UTC)

Codex Entries Edit

I don't think I have a talk page myself, but I was wondering if there is any way to add a note to an item stating that it unlocks a Codex entery, or if this notation already exhists, why is it not listed with the item in a shops' inventory listings? Thanks,

  ~~ dizydaisy1 (xbox live gamer tag) ~~
It's not specifically noted, but the codex entry is usually (or supposed to be) transcluded within the item's page (see Sundering for an example). Otherwise, I'm not sure how to do it (it's not in any guidelines), so I would just include it in the "See also" section (see Stonehammer Boots).
I think it isn't listed in the shop's inventory listing because it was probably deemed not super important to be shown with the tooltip; there is no parameter for that for the ItemTransformer template (other than using the "notes", but it won't show up in the tooltip). --D. (talk · contr) 16:30, March 27, 2011 (UTC)

Lowercase/ uppercase Edit

According to my understanding we are following the policy of using the lowercase letters except the first letter in a particular text, whether it is a section heading, page heading or even in standard text (with the exception of names such as Hawke, Lothering etc.); Is this understanding correct? If so I don't manage to find a specific location in any of our guidelines regarding this. If not,... well then I have to make some page renaming. -- Snfonseka (Talk) 16:35, March 28, 2011 (UTC)

It depends. It's whichever is the correct English (so most of the time, it is going to be the first letter of the first word in uppercase). If the item, the skill, the quest, etc. is named with the uppercase, then it has to be written like it is in-game (since these are supposed to be treated like names, not nouns). It's been uppercase in the past although there was never some kind of guidelines regarding that.
There may be some confusion for creatures (I personally type "hurlocks" instead of "Hurlocks", "ogre" instead of "Ogre", etc.), and I would think, Qunari. In the past, qunari was treated like the race, but Dragon Age II capitalizes them (since it's not really a race? I'm still a bit confused regarding that). I think Origins didn't capitalize the word though, so I'm unsure what we are supposed to do with that.
There is no written policy regarding that as you said (that and categories; it's just that no one has gotten around to write them), but when I brought this up, I understood that it was agreed to use lowercase (among admins though—I do not recall any other editors giving their feedback on that). --D. (talk · contr) 23:20, March 28, 2011 (UTC)
I am pretty sure that we have agreed upon this (not only among admins), but based on my memory it was a year ago (in the end of 2009, I guess). I guess that since we were focused on building the Wiki those days we gave less priority on documenting those decisions. What I am wondering is whether to start that that discussion all over again and come-up with set of guidelines or insert the already agreed guidelines (related to this) to Editing Guidelines. What do you think the best and efficient approach? BTW in your signature the "talk" link is plain text.-- Snfonseka (Talk) 03:59, March 29, 2011 (UTC)
Please ignore the above question. I am doing some reading regarding the matter and after that I will add this issue to Forum: In-game wording. -- Snfonseka (Talk) 09:30, March 29, 2011 (UTC)

Categories? Edit

I hope I'm leaving this in the right place -- with the CSS not working, it's kind of hard to tell.

Anyway, is taking the "DA2 quest" category off of things and making them all "DA2 {main/side/companion/etc.} quest." I left him a note about it, saying I thought having a comprehensive list in addition to the sublists might be helpful and asking if perhaps the admins/moderators should be checked with. That note is now gone from his talk page, and he's still (last I checked) changing things. Given that he is a new user, I wanted to make sure a moderator was looking in to this.

Hopefully, I'm not being out of line. --Morgan-wolf (talk) 02:14, March 31, 2011 (UTC)

This is how categorization is supposed to be done. Currently, a lot of pages are categorized in Category:Quests while they should not (this is because of the template, but this will be removed once all pages in "Quests" have been properly categorized). This means that "Dragon Age II quests" is actually supposed to only contain "lists". This reduces the number of categories that need to be added on each page, which has been previously discussed on the wiki. --D. (talk · contr) 02:44, March 31, 2011 (UTC)
I think I get it. Personally, I liked also having all of the quests (whether main, side, secondary, or companion) in one list instead of having to hop between four other lists, but if the admins have hashed this out I'll bow to that decision :-). --Morgan-wolf (talk) 04:11, March 31, 2011 (UTC)
