Thrask's Journal[]

In Search of Feynriel

Day 1: Visited the Dalish. Hoped to find boy with mother's kin. No luck.

Day 3: Checked healers' homes and the guardsmen's prisons. Nothing.

Day 4: Spoke to Samson. He seemed to be hiding something. I think he may know more of the boy than he admitted. I am stationing two templars at the entrance to the Undercity to watch him to see if the boy shows up.

Day 5: Beginning interviews with alienage elves.

Cut Letter?[]

Dear Player,

I need you to go talk to some scoundrel named Lilley the Knife in Darktown. He is trying to extort money from me. And I don't want to pay him.

Hubert.

Dear Player,

Meet me in the Undercity. I have a business proposition for you.

A.

Still thinking of you!

XOXOXO,

Letter from Emeric?[]

To Hawke,

My name is Emeric. I am a templar investigating the disappearances of several women. You have quite a reputation for helping people, and I hope you can assist me. Please find me in the Gallows courtyard.

Yours truly,
Emeric

Another Letter from Emeric[]

Hawke,

I uncovered new information on the missing women. Unfortunately, I have been forbidden from continuing my investigation. I desperately need your assistance. Come find me in the Gallows courtyard.

Yours truly,
Emeric

Letter from Hubert1?[]

Dear Hawke,

Here is your share of the Bone Pit payment. Please spend it at my store.

Love,
Hubert

Letter from Hubert2?[]

To my new partner,

I'm pleased that you joined the Bone Pit Mining Venture! Unfortunately, in light of the recent dragon infestation, the mine is not quite profitable at the moment. In the near future, you may expect to receive significant profits in exchange for your active participation in our business.

As our verbal agreement was not quite binding by Kirkwall law, I'm sending you this small sum as your first investment dividend. You realize that by accepting this, you are now legally bound to the Bone Pit Mining Venture.

Sincerely,
Hubert

Letter from Hubert3?[]

Hawke,

Convincing the miners to return has allowed the Bone Pit Mining Venture to resume operation much sooner than if I'd had to hire all new workers.\r\n\r\nAs our business has returned to marginal profitability, I've enclosed your next dividend! I do hope you'll spend this sum wisely and not waste it on that ill-advised expedition to the Deep Roads I've been hearing about.

There is plenty of profit to be made in Kirkwall without having to risk life and limb! Should you happen to become blighted in the Deep Roads, I'm afraid that will void our partnership agreement.

Sincerely,
Hubert

Letter from Hubert4?[]

Hawke,

Your next dividend from the Bone Pit Mining Venture, which I've enclosed, is smaller than I had hoped.

Soon after the mine began to turn a profit, those Coterie jackals moved in to claim what is rightfully ours. They've warned me not to refuse their "generous offer of protection." I had little choice but to submit to their extortion.

Someday I hope the Coterie will get their due. But for now, they are simply too powerful to refuse.

Hubert

Letter from Hubert5?[]

Hawke,

I've enclosed your latest dividend. It is smaller than usual due to attacks on our shipments over the last year.

Since you've been so busy lately, I've had to take leave of my shop in Hightown in order to track down who is responsible for these thefts. Our Coterie "protection" has been useless, and I won't be surprised if they're involved.

Hubert

Letter from Hubert6?[]

Hawke,

Here's your latest dividend. I believe you'll find it quite satisfactory.

Profits have been soaring since you ended the bastard who was ambushing our shipments. The Coterie was actually apologetic for once! Thanks to one of their own being responsible for the thefts, they've agreed to waive their fee for the next two years.

Now if only we could get the workers to stop winging about the harsh conditions. They actually expect me to hire guards for them. Well… that's what I have you for, partner!

At your earliest convenience, please visit the Bone Pit to see whatever the miners are concerned with now. That Jansen fellow seems to be the loudest source of discontent.

Hubert

Letter from Hubert7?[]

Hawke,

Here is your next dividend. As you can see, profits are increasing!

Unfortunately, grievances are also increasing. Resolving their last dilemma has made our workers feel entitled! Honestly, I don't see why they couldn't have squashed the spiders themselves. They do have pickaxes!

In any case, please make another trip to the Bone Pit when you get a chance.

Hubert

Letter from Hubert8?[]

Hawke,

I imagine that was nasty business with those undead. You've earned this dividend, partner. I can't imagine how the mines became infested.

The flapping tongues of our workers carried the news into town, and several Kirkwallers have begun chiding me about the Bone Pit being cursed and other such nonsense. And now some city official has threatened a citation if I don't hire guards for the mines within the next year.

To top it all off, those miners are whining more boldly than ever! Now they expect brand new equipment. Perhaps you can set them straight the next time you visit the Bone Pit.

Hubert

Letter from Hubert9?[]

Hawke,

This dividend is small, due to your limited involvement in the development of the Bone Pit Mining Venture. I've had to handle most business matters that I depend on you for myself. It leads me to rethinking our partnership arrangement.

In the future, I hope you will take your business responsibilities more seriously.

Hubert

Letter from Hubert10?[]

Champion,

Here's your latest dividend. It's a bit reduced this time. I had to pay the annual bonuses to the guards we hired last year. I suppose they are earning their pay, since their presence greatly decreases the complaints I receive, not to mention incidents of monsters mangling our miners.

This may seems sudden, but I'm thinking of retiring from the mining business. These past several years have been very profitable, but I feel a need to refocus on buying and selling high-end fine goods.

I'd like you to consider buying out my share of the Bone Pit Mining Venture. Think on it, and we'll speak when I return from my business outside of Kirkwall.

Hubert

Chanter's Board: Bounty Hunter[]

On behalf of Knight-Commander Meredith, the Kirkwall Templar Order offers a gold bounty for the death or capture of several notorious apostates who have escaped the Gallows. Follow the example of Serah Hawke, who valiantly apprehended many Starkhaven apostates in years past, thereby making the realm safer. The apostates are:

Innley of Starkhaven
Deborah Keins
Jake the Black

Proceed with caution. May the Maker watch over any faithful who undertake this holy task.

Chanter's Board: Elves at Large[]

A villainous deed was committed last night! Elven blood mages assaulted a wing of the Gallows to break out their brethren. The templars repelled the assault and prevented the blood mages from liberating Feynriel, but it is now feared that the culprits have escaped the city. A generous bounty is offered for their capture. Time is of the essence!

—Chanter Taletha

A Noble Agenda?[]

Serah Hawke,

Few have succeeded in curbing the ambitions of the Qunari—except you. I write to present an opportunity: In the countryside, travelers have spotted three Qunari patrols searching the Wounded Coast, Sundermount, and the Bone Pits. I would have them eliminated. When my men have confirmed their demise, I will send a generous payment. I fear secrecy is necessary, but know that you have admirer's in the viscount's court.

—A noble friend

A Noble Agenda?[]

Serah Hawke,

Every one of those Qunari patrols has fallen by your hand. I only regret that word of your deeds cannot be called out on every street corner. Enclosed is a token of my regard. Always keep a wary eye aimed at the Qunari—I fear this business has only just begun.

-A noble friend

A letter from Marcia?[]

It grows harder by the day for our kind to live in Kirkwall. My shop is dedicated to helping us survive in this hostile soil. I could perform several potent enchantments with the right ingredients and specialized tomes. Provide these ingredients, and I will compensate you handsomely.

I need: - "Patterns Within Form," unedited version. The Chantry's version butchered Enchanter Halden's lessons. - The Midnight Compendium or any chapter or section you can find. - Essence of Shade. Admittedly hard to gather, as most shades dissipate when destroyed. - An enchanted golden crucible.

—Marcia Arthurius

From Alain[]

Version 1[]

To Hawke,

Remember me? You saved me from Decimus some time ago. I thought you'd like to know that Grace was finally apprehended. She seemed bitter when I spoke to her, wishing she'd been killed instead of captured.

The Kirkwall Circle is much stricter than Starkhaven's, but I'm getting used to it. And I'm glad to be alive!

Thank you for everything,
Alain

Version 2[]

To Hawke,

You may not remember, but you saved me from Decimus some time ago. Grace and I went with Thrask to Kirkwall. The Circle here is stricter than the one in Starkhaven, but I'm getting used to it. I'm glad to be alive. Grace isn't adjusting as well, but I think she'll come around.

Thank you for everything,
Alain

Sweet Nectar?[]

Hey,

I've a new shipment of sweet, sweet nectar. You know what I'm talking about. This stuff is potent! Since I've you to thank for everything, I'll cut you a deal.

Come see me at the Hanged Man.

Martin

???[]

We narrowly escaped Meredith's hounds. The city just isn't safe, Bancroft. We must get five out through the gates tonight and get to the caves. It's that, or risk capture and interrogation.

- "MS"

??[]

Casualties

The hounds nabbed Franke the Cobbler tonight; no one knows where he is now. Thom Beshcal and his wife were killed three days back. They're no longer just hunting us: they're hunting our friends and family. To the Void with the consequences! We must strike back while we still can.

- "A"

??[]

I can get two out tonight. A guide on the other side will take them to the refuge. Don't pick anyone with a cold; last time, a careless sneeze almost alerted the guard.

-Bancroft

??[]

Shipping Notice

We can't trust the raiders' promise of passage—the templar's bounty on us is far too tempting. Press on every contact you have! We must leave Kirkwall before the knight-commander does something drastic. Each night, more of our brethren make it to the coast.

If the hounds sniff out your current location, the other site we discussed is clear. Be prepared to leave at a moment's notice.

-Bancroft

??[]

The templars are tracking down all apostates. So far, Hightown has been spared their scrutiny, but that will undoubtedly change. If you can help us, and possibly your own family and friends, please contact Mistress Selby at the docks. She's put herself in harm's way to help our lot out. And if just doing the right thing doesn't interest you, each job pays well.

-Anonymous

Duty2?[]

A grave crime was committed against all free-thinking men and women in the Free Marches. The ruling Vael family in Starkhaven—my family—was brutally murdered, down to the youngest babe in arms. This massacre was carried out by members of the Flint mercenary company. I hereby offer a bounty on the head of each Flint Company soldier in the Kirkwall vicinity.

— Prince Sebastian Vael

A letter from Varric?[]

Hawke,

Isabela's back. She seems more peevish than I remember and kept making snide comments about "the Champion of Kirkwall." I thought you two had settled that argument over the Qunari relic, or was I wrong? Could you come over to the Hanged Man and have it out with her once and for all? She still owes me twenty silvers, and I don't want to bring up it up while she's in this mood.

Varric
