Your first blow splits his shield and numbs his guard. Your second sends his sword spinning to the side. Your third knocks him from his horse.
The town's population, cramped onto the walls, explodes in celebration. You claim your foe's sword and shield as trophies. They will look splendid on your wall.

Failure: Lessons learned
He's good. For an hour you exchange blow for blow. His stance is never less than perfect; his form is impeccable. Ultimately, a swift flurry of strikes drags your guard wide, then rains crashing blows on your helm.
Before he can drive a blow through your armor, you yield. He claims your sword and shield as victory permits, but returns them to you. "You fought better than any other I've faced," he says. His voice is coarse. What does he look like under that closed helm? "Perhaps I will return one day, ."

The Baron pulls his helmet off and presents you with the vanquished knight's sword and shield. "Child's play. At Belvoir I fought six of him, and still had time to harry the vanguard, storm the Castle of Leaves and dine in the ruins," he boasts. Your court cheer his bravado, but you note his labored breathing and how he favors his left leg. . He's not as young as he was.
