Sela Petrae is a plot item in Dragon Age II.

Background Edit

Sela petrae is a crystal powder formed from concentrated manure and urine. According to Anders, sela petrae is an ingredient used by Tevinter magisters but not used by mages in Kirkwall. Sela petrae deposits are found in the sewers of Darktown in Kirkwall.

Acquisition Edit

Sela petrae is gathered from five Sela Petrae Deposits in the sewers under Darktown as part of the quest Justice.

During the quest Justice, Anders tells Hawke he has been researching Tevinter methods for reversing spirit possession, and he has found a formula for a potion that will separate him from Justice without killing either. Anders asks for Hawke's help to collect two final ingredients, sela petrae and drakestone.

During The Last Straw, it is revealed that Anders was not working on a potion to free himself from Justice; he was using the ingredients to create an explosive.

Trivia Edit

  • "Sela petrae" is likely a reference to "saltpeter", a key component of gunpowder. Together with sulfur and charcoal, saltpeter combines to form gunpowder. Sulfur is probably represented by "drakestone," in the quest. Charcoal is trivial to obtain.
