Questioning Beliefs is an Act 2 companion quest for Aveline in Dragon Age II.

Acquisition Edit

The quest becomes available at 50% friendship or rivalry after completing The Long Road quest.

Walkthrough Edit

The conversation is different for a friend and a rival.

Friendship Edit

With existing friendship, Aveline will comment on how Hawke does good in the city, but asks them to "petition a title, take a job. The guard is always looking."

The Diplomatic ("I thought I was doing well") and Direct ("You complain while helping me") options both lead to her commenting on Seneschal Bran's complaints about "fortune hunters," that while he's a clod, the city would be better if it were more stable:

  • Friendship small Aveline: friendship (+15) By stating that she would be bored.
  • Rivalry small Aveline: rivalry (+15) By choosing "Like they 'stabilize' mages?"

The Charming option ("You're the captain, not me") leads to Hawke quipping "Don't blame me for not being you. I'd make a poor guard." Aveline smirks and agrees, and states that Hawke's had an effect, but that "Maybe it's time to get serious. Before the option isn't your own."

  • Friendship small Aveline: friendship (+15) By stating "You need my good humor."
  • Rivalry small Aveline: rivalry (+15) By stating "You're whining about yourself."

Rivalry Edit

With existing rivalry, Aveline will comment on how she enough to deal with in the city and doesn't need you here:

  • Friendship small Aveline: friendship (+15) "I thought I was doing well." followed by "'Our' adventures, you mean."
  • Rivalry small Aveline: rivalry (+15) "I thought I was doing well." followed by "I need what I need."
  • Friendship small Aveline: friendship (+15) "You're the captain, not me." followed by "I'm doing you a favor."
  • Friendship small Aveline: friendship (+15) "You're the captain, not me." followed by "You need my good humor."
  • Rivalry small Aveline: rivalry (+15) "You're the captain, not me." followed by "You're whining about yourself."
  • Friendship small Aveline: friendship (+15) "You complain while helping me." followed by "Neither would you."
  • Rivalry small Aveline: rivalry (+15) "You complain while helping me." followed by "A stupid provocation."

Note: The rivalry version of the conversation can happen with a locked-in friendship. Also, a humorous/sarcastic Hawke will have an interesting response to Aveline after the "You need my good humor" option is taken.
