Lanaya is the apprentice, or "first", of Keeper Zathrian.

Background Edit

Lanaya's parents worked for a merchant. When she was still a child, their caravan was attacked by bandits and she was the only one who survived. She was forced to serve as a slave to the bandits for several years (sexually, as implied from her dialogue) until the bandits made the mistake of straying too close to a Dalish clan's territory and killing a scout; the clan's Keeper, Zathrian, came looking for revenge and slaughtered them all. Zathrian took pity on the girl; the clan took Lanaya in and adopted her.

Becoming Zathrian's First was difficult for Lanaya, as she was not born into the clan and many looked down on her and resented Zathrian's choice. Over time, Lanaya proved herself competent and worthy of the post, and such prejudices died away. Zathrian himself speaks quite highly of Lanaya, saying she is more than ready to take the position of Keeper.

Involvement Edit

The Warden encounters Lanaya after speaking with Zathrian in the Dalish Camp. When asked she tells a brief history of the Dalish as well as the origin of the curse that plagues the forest. If The Warden's coercion skill is high enough (3 points) Lanaya will relate what happened to Zathrian, when she mentions that he has lost much. Otherwise, Lanaya will not discuss this point.

for Dragon Age: Origins.
If Zathrian dies, Lanaya will become the clan's new keeper. She will lead the Dalish, who will be welcomed by humans because of their involvement in the Battle for Denerim. Conflicts will flare up however, and Lanaya will be instrumental in keeping the peace.

Quotes Edit

  • (On humans) "A poet once wrote of them, before the fall of the Dales: 'Like Dragons they fly, glory upon wings. Like dragons they savage, fearsome pretty things.'"
