“I'll answer what I can, but my policy is not to sell things that don't belong to me.”

Gorim Saelac is a merchant in Denerim Market District. He is also a temporary companion in the Dwarf Noble Origin.

Background[]

Gorim is a knight and member of the warrior House Saelac. He serves as the loyal second of the Dwarf Noble, the second child of King Endrin Aeducan. Since he was destined to serve as the Dwarf Noble's second since his childhood, he was trained exclusively in sword and shield combat[1], and lacks training in solo combat. In fact a year before the events of the Fifth Blight, he fought in an open Proving and did not perform well.[2] He is also acquainted with Oghren who he threw out of the Orzammar Royal Palace a dozen times for insulting King Endrin.

Involvement[]

This section contains spoilers for:
Dragon Age: Origins.

Gorim is a temporary companion to the Dwarf Noble, and accompanies them during the festivities. He provides counsel and also serves as an intermediary if the Dwarf Noble does not wish to speak directly to the commoners. If the Dwarf Noble is female the player can acknowledge that the two had a romantic relationship which however it cannot lead anywhere since King Endrin won't allow his daughter and Princess of Orzammar to marry a man of lower caste. Gorim may also be asked on what to do with the Dwarf Noble's elder brother, Trian Aeducan, as he is the Crown Prince and thus the first in line to become the new King of Orzammar. Gorim will admit that he will be a very bad ruler and has enough support in the Assembly just to keep it in a lockdown but not enough to become king, so killing him now will make the Aeducans stronger and save a great deal of bloodshed later.

After the death of Trian, the Dwarf Noble's name is stricken from the Memories and exiled into the Deep Roads to fight darkspawn until their death. Gorim pleaded to let him accompany the Dwarf Noble but the Bhelen-supporting deshyrs wouldn't allow it, and instead Gorim is exiled and sent to the surface. He will tell the Dwarf Noble that there is a chance to survive by finding Duncan and other Grey Wardens who recently ventured there as well. Before bidding his farewell he also tells the Dwarf Noble that he will try to head to Denerim, the capital city of Ferelden, and that if the Dwarf Noble makes it out of the Deep Roads, they will find him there.

He does indeed make his way to Denerim, where the Warden can find him as a merchant in the Denerim Market District. He will tell the Dwarf Noble that he badly injured his leg while leaving Orzammar, and thus cannot fight anymore but he married a surface dwarf and is expecting a child with her. His new father-in-law is a smith who helps make the goods he sells. Furthermore, he will give to a Warden of the Dwarf Noble Origin, the shield of Aeducan and a letter from King Endrin. He also offers a special discount at his stall to Dwarf Noble (buying at 50% of the listed price of items instead of 25% and selling at only +10% - essentially anything you sell to him gives you double the gold that you'd get elsewhere). Similarly, during A Prince's Favor: The First Task if the Warden is not of Dwarf Noble Origin, you can speak to Lord Anwer Dace in the Aeducan Thaig and persuade him to offer of a discount with some surface merchants he knows. This will apply a 25% discount to any goods purchased from Gorim but adds nothing to the value of items you attempt to sell to him.

Gorim also appears to be acquainted with K and will assist him during New Ground.

If the Warden is not a Dwarf Noble:
Having Oghren in the active party when approaching Gorim's stall for the first time will begin a conversation revealing how the two know one another.
If the Warden is the Dwarf Noble:
A male Dwarf Noble who had sexual relations with Mardy can reinstate his son's noble status at the end Of Noble Birth quest. He can also elect to name his son after Gorim.

After Archdemon Urthemiel is slain, the Assembly contacts Gorim as they assume that he is still the Dwarf Noble's second. For their feat, the Dwarf Noble is named Paragon while Gorim joins House Aeducan and elevated to nobility. If the Warden is not alive, Gorim attends the funeral of the Dwarf Noble and speaks with Ferelden's monarch informing them that the dwarves do not burn their dead but return them to the Stone and that the King of Orzammar has requested the body to return to Orzammar to be entombed next to their father, Endrin Aeducan.

If the Warden is alive, Gorim tells the Dwarf Noble Warden that he will happily become their second again. Even if the Warden accepts his offer, however, Gorim does not appear again in Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening or in any other DLC.

Quotes[]

  • "That fool has no idea how weak his house is or how low he sits in it. Shall I have him killed, my lord/lady?"
  • "I will always be your man, my Lord/Lady Aeducan."
  • (during combat) "House Aeducan shall never fall!"
  • (shouted in Denerim Market District) "Dwarven Crafts, Fine Dwarven Crafts, direct from Orzammar! You won't find better!"

Dialogue[]

  • Gorim: "In times like these you -- wait. Oghren? Is that you?
  • Oghren: "You messed your sales pitch, Gorim. You were just getting to the good part, too. See, this is why warriors make bad merchants."
