Given what we've learned about the Elven pantheon in Inquisition, recently started to wonder about what exactly the two ravens almost always mentioned with him, Fear and Deceit, actually are. Given the new found abundance of lore about the Elves after Inquisition it seems unlikely that they were simply allegorical creatures, at least to me.

I've personally come to the conclusion that the first may well be the entity now known as the Nightmare, based on the implied age of the spirit/demon and the statue in the fade of a back-stabbed Dirthamen. If that is the case, then it makes me wonder what would happen if either the Nightmare was killed or the Elven Gods released. Given what Cole says about the spirit, it used to help people. If Fear and the Nightmare are one and the same, did it help because Dirthamen made it, or did it start after the imprisonment of the Elven Gods? Or am I wrong, and are the two different creatures, with the Nightmare gaining such power do to the death or imprisonment of Fear?

And then we have Deceit, Who has no clear candidate in the lore. Once I might have suggested Flemeth, but given she's Mythal that's not really an option. I also considered the possibility of Solas not truly being Fen'harel, but rather Deceit, but it seems unlikely that the Devs would do a double misdirection without dropping any hints of the true truth. I even thought about the Sloth demon from the Ferelden Circle tower in Origins, but that demon was far to easy to read to be such IMO. So I'm left empty handed unless we consider wild ideas like Deceit taking on the mantle of the human "Maker" to gain power, but that seems unlikely to say the least.

So, what does everybody else think? Am I just digging into an area of the lore that's just there as fluff? Did I miss some huge clue about the ravens at some point? Is Deceit really the Nug King :P? Hit me with your thoughts, everypeople! Eggy the Duck (talk) 07:54, September 1, 2015 (UTC)

They are simply a reference to Hugin and Mumin, the ravens of Odin. I doubt that you may find them in the game, yet. Caspoi (talk) 09:28, September 1, 2015 (UTC)

I confess, after that inscription in JoH I wondered if Solas was actually Geldauran, the elven god of deceit, and only perceived as Fen'Harel because he wore the Dread Wolf's jawbone around his neck. It's possible that the 'ravens' were spirits like the Nightmare that Dirthamen held in check but once he was trapped, the 'ravens' were free to act on their own. I don't think the Nightmare could be Fear because we know it started off as a helpful spirit until it was trnaformed into a fear demon and that seemingly occured as a result of feeding off the fear from the darkspawn, which didn't occur until well after the Elven Pantheon vanished. I like the overall theory though, perhaps Fear and Deciet were powerful demons that Falon'Din was able to bind like Corypheus did
