The Chantry: DA's Cerberus?

Hey everyone. After playing DA:O and DAII, I can't help but notice that some people of the chantry and templars have very unlikeable attitudes (example: some of the sisters', Templars', and their followers' attitude against Elves and Qunari), except of course for Leliana, Sebastian, Kirkwall's revered mother, and some templars. I can't help but think that the chantry, or at least one group within the chantry or a faction of the templar order (latter two most likely), is one extreme decision away from becoming an organization like Cerberus from ME. Thoughts?--98.148.251.165 (talk) 04:19, August 3, 2012 (UTC)
I do not see that at all. Cerberus is a terrorist group that fights against the powers that be, while the Chantry doesn't support or endorse those kind of actions and when they fight it is open and declared war. They do not function the same way, they do not have even remotely similar/comparable aims or methods. A group having some extremists isn't the same as that group being a collection of evil nutters and racists. This isn't to say that the Chantry is without problems, but it's not in any way like Cerberus. The only link you have given is that there is some stuff in both you don't like, thats not really anything to go on. --110.32.170.225 (talk) 04:35, August 3, 2012 (UTC)
Chantry is more like the Christianity in its golden era. If it was like the Cerberus, they would not lock up their mages - they'd research into making them even more powerful, they'd openly fight qunari, steal their inventions and turn them against them. Henio0 (talk) 12:53, August 3, 2012 (UTC)
Why must everything in Dragon Age be compared to Mass Effect. Cerberus is the opposite of the Chantry. If anything is to be compared to Cerberus, it's the tevinter magisters
- Exacly. Comparing DA to ME was made so many times that I'm sick of this.
The Chantry, as a whole, contains both -------- and saints. It depends on the individual we focus on. While Cerberus is lead by a manipulative ----- that didn't even know he damned his own race. The only parallel I see is that both organizations are full of deluded maniacs. -Algol- (talk) 19:22, August 3, 2012 (UTC)
If we're going to make ME comparisons at all, the Chantry is more like the Council/Systems Alliance, and the Mage Rebels and Tevinter Imperium the Cerberus parallel. The Chantry is the orthodoxy and legitimate authority - good intentions but a few bad actions and members, slight tendency to throw people under the bus to achieve it's goals, and somewhat overconcerned with rules and paranoia. Also, it's methods are more like the Council - strong military arm (Citadel Fleet/Templars) supported by a sneaky elite organisation (Spectres/Seekers). The Rebels, like Cerberus, are devoted to a good ideal but are willing to do anything in the name of that ideal (there are a lot of similarities between the rhetoric of TIM and many of the Rebs, especially Anders), often actually make things worse for the people they support by their actions, and tend to use unorthodox and dangerous methods which often blow up in their users faces (Reaper Tech and AI research/Blood Magic, Demonology). Essentially, Cerberus and the Rebs areWell Intentioned Extremists while the Council and Chantry are Inspector Javerts. TheTeaMustFlow (talk) 09:41, August 4, 2012 (UTC)
