So, for Dragon Age 3, I think Bioware should make it possible to decide if you want to play as Hawke or The Warden. Personally, I feel more "attached" to my warden than my Hawke.

What do you believe should be done? All thoughts and speculations welcome —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grey Hero (talkcontribs) 19:08, August 29, 2011

(Edit Conflict with S13Kuro) Please try and remember to sign your posts with ~~~~. As S13Kuro explained, neither the Warden or Hawke will return as the PC in DAIII, as the aim is to introduce a new protagonist with every installment. Elementalist KC. | talk 19:26, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

It's already been confirmed we'll be playing as an entirely new character in DA3. S13Kuro (talk) 19:16, August 29, 2011 (UTC)

It should be neither the Warden or Hawke, a new character. At the start of DA:3, you can't be over-powered or over-levelled and it makes no sense to rebuild Hawke or the Warden. Also the Warden has too much variables for him/her to make a full playable return. For all the complaining of DA:2's lack of choice, it's safe to assume everyone will be back for DA:3 in some from or another, in Origins/Awakening... well you know this story. Also; a major point of a role playing game is to develop and craft your character into the world, we have already done this substantially in DA:1 and DA:2, so it's only fair we do this for a new Character in DA:3. Also, Bioware has confirmed a different playable Character in DA:3, wishing and whining won't change fact.

As for Scenarios for the new character: Someone who escapes Kirkwall's mage-templar and flees with Bodhan and Sandal (and Oranna) to Orlais. A little too similar to DA:2's beginning but it gets your character's relationship with Bodhan and Sandal into the plot from the start. I do think it would be a good base for Bioware to bring back Race and Origins into the game (Character is either a Human/Dwarf Hightown Noble/Merchant, a Human/Dwarf Lowtown Commoner/Elf from Alienage, (All races) a Darktown Refugee from Fereldon, or a Mage who escaped Templar Persecution.) I would prefer random origins form around the world that ultimately collide into one location. Also, the origin characters you don't choose still make an impact into the game, maybe a rival system. - King Mattitude24 (talk)

Well, Mike Laidlaw has said on more than one occasion that, when choosing the main protagonist for each Dragon Age game, they always choose the character who makes the most impact in that part of Thedas at that time. For Origins, it was the Warden because he/she led the armies of Fereldan against the Blight. In DA2, Hawke was a key factor in starting the Mage-Templar War in Kirkwall. So for DA3, which has yet to be confirmed (but at the panel they heavily hinted at a DA3), the protagonist will once again follow this formula. So the real question is not who will it be, but where will the Mage-Templar War have the most effect? That can only be elaborated on by future DA2 post-endgame DLC, which will give us more of a view on the aftermath of the Kirkwall Incident. So, where do you think the Mage-Templar War has affected Thedas the most? Supreme Dragon (talk) 03:50, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

Hawke I hope fled by ship and got lost in a storm. My warden should be content living their life as a paragon tutoring their nephew the next king of Orzamer. I want a new character and there should be more origin options than in DAO this is supposed to be a sequel after all.174.45.9.40 (talk) 04:22, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

It's going to be a new character. I agree with Gaider, I'd like to play as an elf. Maybe a Qunari. Submit to the Qun!

Maybe a Qunari maybe a Mabari:). But seriously, i think that elf with a really nicely created backstory would be a good choice. I was also thinking how this could be connceted with different origins. So my idea is that we have one protagonist for example an Elf called Kane, but we can choose from six different origins: one for instance, our elf was captured as a child and was a slave and begins his story in a slave master compound, another that he spent his life in the woods and now is forced to leave his motherland etc. So having one protagonist doesn't have to mean that we cannot choose from different origins. I think this is a good idea, I hope someone in Bioware will consider implementing this idea in Dragon Age III, what do you think? [Bartosz], 08:01, August 30, 2011

If theirs going to be origin story's like in Origins and the setting is through out Thedas, Then i would love to see a Mage starting point in the Tevinter and you get a taste of the Qunari war, I'd love to do that of course because I want to learn more about and see Tevinter, and play as a mage. Like the Mage Origin Story from DA:Origins

Or a Orlesiannoble start where you experience first hand the trouble Orlais is going through. Like The Human Noble Origin Story from DA:Origins

And maybe a Dalish elf starting point where your tribe gets mixed up in a battle between the Templars and Mages.

What would also be fantastic is a Dwarf start with the Primeval thaig and that stirs up something impacting to the overall story of DAIII. Though I just want to more about that Thaig

I personally dont see a Qunari player-character really working with the concept of the story, YOu need to reason and drive people to keep fighting or make peace, a Kossith would be too alien, and possibly rare and isolated, to do that properly or similarly enough to the other Origin choices to be feasible. Also in gameplay the Kossith are extremely powerful and dissimilar to Humans, Elves and Dwarves to be balanced in the grand scheme of things. Just look at what the Arishok can do.

Though I could be wrong. But I personally want to more Tevinter stuff, It would be very exciting and interesting to start playing as a Tevinter in Minrathous.

It doesn't matter to me if there will be new character in DA III. In DA:O I made my first warden and I made it in DA II and I'm sure I make it in DA III as well. I've always played and I play all the games where you can make your own character the same one. Always! --188.67.240.198 (talk) 12:22, March 26, 2012 (UTC) Jak Darckner

Probably someone from Asunder, like Wynne's son?--ShadowPancakes (talk) 12:27, March 26, 2012 (UTC)

If I end up having to play as a 100% set character like Rhys (IE always mage, past relationships and personality completely set in stone, and always male - as established by the book) I will promptly stab something - HARD. DA2 had too little customization as it is. Matt-256 (talk) 13:12, March 26, 2012 (UTC)

The character will be completely new - ie not Hawke, the Warden and not anyone from the novels, they've said that it won't be Hawke or the Warden, and having someone like Wynne's son from Asunder would make no sense, since your suppose to create your own character.

I'm also fairly sure that the the character will be voiced, with dialogue following DA2 rather than DAO. And I'm willing to bet where ever this character's current residence is, he/she will originate in Fereldon thus requiring only a male and female voice, no matter the species. Though so far as I've noticed, most Fereldons, Kirkwallers and Tevinters are voiced by British actors meaning it can be fairly open... for the same reason I can't imagine the new character being Orlesian or Antivan because authenticity would require a French/Spanish accent. Alexsau1991 (talk page) 20px 14:20, March 26, 2012 (UTC)

You could still play around with them. Leliana had a French Accent even if she was from Ferelden. I could see the opposite hold truth. Someone having lived in Orlais or Antiva for a decade or so but still not have picked up the accent. Or perhaps there could be more than two voice actors playing the protagonist, but would Bioware be ready to dish the cash to do so? Daenerys Hawke (talk) 20:16, March 26, 2012 (UTC)
