We have articles like First Enchanter Irving, Senior Enchanter Sweeney, Ser Karras and Mother Hannah, but we don't have articles "First Enchanter Orsino", "Senior Enchanter Rhys", "Ser Thrask" or "Mother Petrice". For the sake of consistency I propose that we remove titles from names of all character articles, so that it is simply "Irving","Sweeney","Karras","Ethina","Lambert" etc, and avoid using titles in article names in future.

What do you think about it? Asherinka (talk) 20:01, February 11, 2012 (UTC)

I believe our current policy regarding naming - be it a character, a location etc. - is that we name pages according to how they appear in-game. For example, when you approach First Enchanter Irving, the bubble above his head says, "First Enchanter Irving". By the same token, when you approach Orsino, the bubble simply says, "Orsino". We don't actually have a policy for naming characters, but that convention has sort of been what most contributors will follow. Some pages use the full name when it's known (e.g. Marlowe Dumar, Meredith Stannard, all the companions) as opposed to how they appear in-game.
In general, I think it might be better to keep the title if it's the most commonly known name or if it makes it less ambiguous (which is generally how they appear in-game). For example, if a character is generally known by their title (especially when we don't know their full name), use their title, e.g., "First Enchanter Irving" instead of simply "Irving". For Rhys, I would not use the title simply because it's not as predominant in the novel (for obvious reason). I know this is how we the readers/players perceive the characters, but I think that's the best way to deal with this.
We can break this down further to include when to generally use their title such as Chantry members (e.g., Grand Cleric Elthina, Brother Genitivi) and royalty (e.g., King Maric Theirin, King Calenhad).
I would move "Marlowe Dumar" to "Viscount Marlowe Dumar" and "Meredith Stannard" to "Knight-Commander Meredith", "Orsino" to "First Enchanter Orsino", etc. Their codex entry generally follow that convention, so it can serve as a guide in some cases.
The most important when considering the article name is how easy it'll be for us to recognize who we're talking about, and ease of use (e.g., excluding the middle name when it's rarely ever used). I think it's better to use the title in some cases, so we can't really have a rigid naming convention. When in doubt, I suggest using {{move}} and discuss it on the talk page. -D. I think it is better to follow King Couslands' idea, where we name the pages according to the in-game text of that character. -- Snfonseka (Talk) 13:13, February 14, 2012 (UTC)
