How about "Gonnit", short for "Doggonnit"? You could also try "Pavlov". If you also had a cat, you could name it "Schroedinger". To add eccentricity to obscurity, swap the names.
I called mine Barkspawn! Due to the number of Darkspawn and I just thought it was epic XD
I tend to call my dog Wrex from the mass effect franchise XD
- That! My "canon" dog's name is Wrex. Partly because I was thinkng of an iconic Polish dog named "Reksio" at the time, and that's how I got to Wrex with a silent "w". :P Henio0 (talk) 17:52, September 11, 2012 (UTC)
My first play through I just called him Dog, more by mistake than intent. Other playthroughs I had him named 'Rip', 'Lassie', and currently 'Angus' - seemed like a nice strong Ferelden name :P. Next time through, he gets to be 'Hafter'. LegionnaireScout 16:11, May 24, 2010 (UTC If I am anything other than a human noble, I call him Loghain.
Mine's called Rinty after the dog i grew up with :) I name him Murlock. It just seemed right I NAME him MPISKOTAKI which means in greek language "little biscuit" :P
It varies depending on the origin. Human Noble: Nan Dwarf Noble: Trian Mage: Cullen For city Elf, Dalish, and Dwarf Commoner I'll randomly pick names like Rabbit, Snuffy, Pillow, or whatever silly name sticks into my mind.
So whats your favourite name for Dog? Shitballs.
Fa' Haren after the Dalish Dread Hound in the lore of the game. -J011Y_R063R
I'm still on my first playthrough, and named it Bandersnatch. At the same time, my brother's on his first playthrough as well and "so cleverly" named it Spike. Next run, I'm naming it ChristopherLee as an inside joke.
I name him Calyo, after my nephew (Calvin) and niece (Yolanda). If she was female, I'd call her Yocal. Bwahaha... May 01, 2010.

My favs are "NibblesTheDestroyer, AnkleMauler, SavageStink, BiteyMcShitbrains, and OldFeller". I must admit though, I would see naming an ugly as hell attack dog after your dead fiance as more disrespectful than anything else :D but thats just me.188.8.131.52 15:23, April 5, 2010 (UTC)
: I think it depends on how much you value your dog. I always have him in my party and value his skills highly. I see naming him after Nelaros as an honor. My first playthrough - as with EQ, Vanguard, WarhammerOnline, etc - was dwarven rogue Yitzhakh (commoner in DA). And the first NPC cohort is Leske; a very dog-like companion....the leg humping variety. When the Mabari found me, he became Leske; and so has every Mabari NPC for every other playthrough.
My dog's name has so far always been Cerberus. Unoriginal? Yes, but it fits well enough. --Tyranno Ex 04:43, April 10, 2010 (UTC)
Draugluin for my Human Noble, Carcharoth for my Mage. Because Silmarillion werewolves are just so much fun, and it sounds much more imposing than 'Scrambles The Death Dealer'. Also, I just intensely loved the name Carcharoth from the moment I read it. 'The Thirsty Maw'. Really, is there a cooler name for a bloodthirsty canine companion? :3
When I first started playing I called him Shaggz for some reason, don't know why. lol. Now I'm thinking I might call him Wade ( Deadpools first name) or Howlett (Wolverines real last name) pretty kick ass names. - Shaggy86

LOL @ Novawolf. "Barkspawn"! That's cute! Hmm, "Warden" does sound like a badass name for a dog, though many of the NPC's call your character "Warden." I'm curious if the dog looks up, confused, wondering if they were talking to him or not, haha. Recently, I've been using the name Apollo. Meh. Amm879 17:36, April 11, 2010 (UTC)
Either I name mine Wolf, Maric, Ajax, or Brax. Two of them I got from a random name generator (because I'm unoriginal) and I only chose the other two because I needed a quick name. Wolf because... well, it's Dog, and Maric because my character's name was Moira, and I was thinking about buying the books for Dragon Age at the time, which center around King Maric. I'm going to have to steal some of these at some point. Anyway, my human characters tend to name the dog "Rabbit", because of how often he hops around when you talk to him. For my elven and dwarven characters, however, I tend to look something up on websites that help with elven and dwarven names, so I have something that makes sense in their language. Despite Dragon Age not being tied to DnD whatsoever, it still makes the most sense to have them tie their pets to their culture, you know? Hitokiri Akins 03:23, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

First time round was Dogsmith, second round was Bosun. Although, that would probably be a better name for a Jack Russel terrier.
I tend to name mine after cuts of meat. So far I have Ribeye, Lambchop, Porkchop and TBone. :c)
Nero and Anubis
=I've always named my dog Kijak. Just sorta popped into my mind on my first run-through. Ended up sticking with it.
-> I've named my dog "Spot" (as in the game : The Whispered World, Sadwick's caterpillar with supa power!)- KalintZ
On my first playthrough: TRex. On my 2nd playthrough: Garfield.
I started with a generic name for my noble and called him Spike also. But for my elf, I named him Sparkles just to be funny. Then I named my mage's dog Snowflake because my mage has all of the cold spells. I kind of name my dogs based on the type of character I am. I think, what name would this character call their dog. For my dwarf character, I call him Dia which means diamond. I figured, dwarves love stones and jewels, it fits. --Fantasyeve87 (talk) 21:29, May 31, 2010 (UTC)
I give my dog my name in real life. Also, if you want to name your dog after the Nordic wolf-god, name him Fenris (more accurate historically) and don't call him monstrous. What most people don't realize about Fenris' role in Norse mythology is that while he is the god of betrayal, he resents his role and is secretly optimistic about the success of humanity. He just hates the gods. Rellakan (talk) 22:12, May 31, 2010 (UTC)Rellakan

The name of my dog usually depends on what origin I'm playing or on my character's personality. Sometimes I like to name him after a character in the origin story that meant a lot to the warden or some other notable name in the origin story. Sometimes I will just use Dog and the popular, Barkspawn. So heres the list of only a few of the names I've used. Human Noble: Hohaku, Female City Elf: Nelaros, Dalish Elf: Fen'Harel. Hohaku has been my favorite so far. I really like it.--TerynCousland (talk) 00:54, June 20, 2010 (UTC)
I called him Mange because Morg or one of the companions said mangy dog. Its gonna be Mange on all my play through's now..., I'm a creature of habit -fleabyte
I was tempted to call him like 1 of my real dogs ( Ettore or Camilla....2 sausage dogs ) but felt such names are a bit humiliating for a mighty beast like that, and being a fan of anime called him Amon ( from the Devilman saga ). Always called him so.
When I go mage because of my love of Harry Dresden, I name the dog Mouse. Other times Bane. I love BarkSpawn though, will have to remember that - jmcan81145

I finally worked out my final set names, I have a habit of changing it, so here they are:
Human Noble - Thane, which was a title had something to do with nobility as well as some military significance.Nothing to do with Mass Effect or Skyrim.
Human Mage - Calenhad, as the tower is located there
Dalish Elf - Barkspawn, she romances Alistair, enough said
City Elf - Valen, after Elder Valendrian
Dwarven Noble - Mutt, can explain so much about him...
Dwarven Commoner - Salroka, meaning "friend" according to this wiki
Hawke - Ghost, yes Game of Thrones reference
In DAO I just called him Barkspawn, I know its lazy but the damn that name is punny. But in DA2 for some reason I just out of nowhere named the dog 'Montague' maybe its because I'm a Shakespeare fan, maybe its because I like my puppy's sophisticated. But something inside of me loves the fact that the dog has that epic name. --TheRageMage (talk) 15:25, June 8, 2012 (UTC)TheRageMage
Wuffles if I'm playing a nasty character - Just for the irony. I've also used Barkspawn (I can't believe I never thought of that), SerWoofington or occasionally Loghain. Arl Howe would be too cruel (to the dog). TheTeaMustFlow (talk) 10:09, June 9, 2012 (UTC)
Generally depends on my Origin. Normally I name my dog Lars regardless of whether or not I play a Human Noble, but sometimes I have mixed it up a bit depending on Origin.
- Human Noble: Lars
- Dalish Elf: Crusher
- City Elf: Schweinhund (Means Pig Dog in German :p)
- Mage: Ulfric (Named after the Skyrim character)
- Dwarf Noble: Chewbacca
- Dwarf Commenor: Harbinger
- Hawke: Lightning (Yes, a Final Fantasy XIII reference whether anyone likes it or not)
- Are you implying that *you* in fact are a dog? Huh. That would explain alot. EzzyD (talk) 17:57, June 11, 2012 (UTC)
Named him Griffon on my second playthrough and the name stuck. If my warden can't have a mighty feathered beast by his/her side, he/she will have a mighty hound named after the pet he wishes he could have!! --18.104.22.168 (talk) 19:18, June 11, 2012 (UTC)
I always used Russian names for my dogs. DAO Dog was "Alexei", and DAII was "Sergei". DA3 rolls around and there's a dog, it'll probably be something like "Anatoli" or "Mishka". Maybe "Gennedy", after the badass Russian general from The Bear and the Dragon. DavetheExile (talk) 21:40, June 11, 2012 (UTC)
