Development of Lore category treeEdit

Hi all. This is just a line to explain the activity related to lore categories you might spot over the next week or so. Now that we have so much more info about Thedas, and that the codex entries have their own pages and so can be individually categorised, it struck me that the existing Lore categories probably weren't fine-grained enough to maximise their potential to group related articles and so highlight connections and aid research into aspects of Thedan lore. So, with Loleil's help, I've put together a proposal for a new Lore Category tree - see User:Zoev/Sandbox if you're interested in the draft. I'm in the process of creating this tree and making sure existing Lore articles and codex entry pages are in the right new categories. This will mean that the lore categories might be a bit messy whilst in transition - sorry about that! Once I'm done, I'll drop another note on this forum so people can have a browse and let me know their thoughts. I like that Zoev put so much thought into the refactoring of the Lore category. After perusing her Sandbox, I have to say that it looks meticulous and well thought out.
@Zoev, my only concern is the number of the subtrees. I am from Internet School of Browsing where Less Choices is More. I prefer not to overwhelm the user right off - instead relying on their curiousity to click-through the lore on subjects that are of interests.
But, as I read your TOC, I see that you've been careful not to make the categories overlap (too much). So, I think it should be implemented as-is before making any suggestions to trim certain categories. --Tierrie 01:33, January 12, 2010 (UTC)
I think you may well be right that I've gotten carried away with sub-categories. Because I'm already sort of planning my next project (developing some of the Lore articles), I think I may have been thinking of the categories that would make it simplest to research topics for specific articles rather than the convenience of the average wiki user. However, as you say, once I've implemented the tree and slotted existing articles into it then it should become clearer which bits don't work and where trimming may be desirable. UpdateEdit

The new lore category tree has now been implemented and populated with Codex entries and existing lore articles, though I still need to do a fair bit of work tidying up the category pages and checking everything properly - it was a pretty swift whizz through that I did. Do feel free to have a browse if you like and let me know your thoughts. I think there are some bits that are going to need refining, but I won't try to influence you before you've had a chance to make up your own mind! --Zoev 03:52, January 14, 2010 (UTC)
