I've been trying to expand some of the locations, but honestly... I'm getting a bit confused. Every location page seems to have a different format. The Locations template has some redundant areas ("map" and "places," both of which tell you to describe the place or list things of interest.) Can we decide which sections/subsections the location pages need? And exactly what these are titled, because sometimes I see "Things to Fight" and other times it's just "Inhabitants" and other times there's "Enemies." Information I think is pertinent to most areas...

  • Involved in (which quests are found here/lead you here)
  • Characters (which characters are in the area)
  • Enemies (or creatures; not too fond of the "things to fight", because what if you decide to just skip the fighting?)
  • Background (short blurb about the area)
  • Loot (Unique items to find?)
  • Locations of stuff (needs a better title, obviously, but since the maps are unmarked except for the in-game X's, a hint as to where to find all the lovely loot/quest points would be nice.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. :) I'd just like to have a simple format I can follow when expanding/creating location pages. - Ancestralmask 17:40, December 3, 2009 (UTC)

Lets see, I use (mostly) the same
First in the location an image of the area in the locationbox, then a bit below, a map of the area, 300px or so. Area/Map named after the map in game. Same in the images I upload: Map-Location_A.jpg and Area-Location_A.jpg.
Categories I use are now:
  • Background (same)
  • Characters: (anyone you can start a dialog with, even if it is short and leads to a fight.)
  • Enemies: (I prefer this term above things to fight, and above inhabitants as well.)
  • Special Objects: (Any object that you can start a dialog with, or can use, or be hurt by. (Traps, Altars/Fountain, Speaking Doors, Mouse Hole (fade) and so on.)
  • Containers: (anything that opens and contains stuff, handy if you are a completionist and want to make sure you opened/found everything on the level)
  • Involved in: (quests there)
  • Places: (If the location is a hub for other locations, like Brecilian Forest or Circle Tower isn't a real map, but in face hosts multiple maps, when it is like that, I use a parent page and the places field.
  • Exits: The exits of the place
  • Notes: Anything special to note, like a bug, a weird thing going on, don't forget to do xx etc. (I don't use the field to often and I wasn't really sure about it.)
  • See also: (Link to anything related.)
As for loot, I write that (currently) behind the object, character or enemy that actually drops it. That way I don't have to report the same item twice on the same page.--Mytharox 17:51, December 3, 2009 (UTC)
I fairly like your set-up, although it's hard for somebody like me who works off of memory (awful, I know) to fill in the exact locations. I'll leave that to the completionists ;) The point is though, the Locations Template needs to match up to this as well, so that everybody creating a new page will make the SAME type of location page. And so I/others can be sure of what to add/not add when expanding some of the stubby location pages. (Although I'm sure we'd still end up with a few Locations that were made from a blank template...) - Ancestralmask 17:56, December 3, 2009 (UTC)
In Containers and object I don't always note the exact location, perhaps I or others in the future can add a map with all locations filled in, like the world map now has. But that is a heck of a lot more work. ;) For now I already like to see what items I can expect, certainly helps to know that a cool item can be found in the ornate chest e.g :) As for editing the create page. I don't know where it could be found even. I suppose someone with admin rights can only change it, or it is cleverly hidden ;) But that create page for locations is something I hardly use. It has 'things to fight' in it and a link link, so a lot of default location pages were originally linking to that not existing page:P I would love to change it if it was possible to anything we can agree on.--Mytharox 18:09, December 3, 2009 (UTC)
Updated my previous post with 3 more fields I used, Exits, Places, Notes.--Mytharox 14:19, December 4, 2009 (UTC)
