(I was going to make this into a sticky thread, then decided against. If this requires more attention for some reasons, this can be made into a wiki-wide announcement.)
Contact an administrator ASAP (or the VSTF) if you see an user impersonating another user. They will most likely get permanently banned, their edits removed to avoid confusion as well as their userpages and their talkpages.
To spot them when the names look the same:
- Links in their signatures are likely to be fake. As such, you must look at the history page by clicking the Edit drop-down menu, and click History.
- Click on their username (you can alternatively copy the name).
- They may use redirects to the real user they are trying to impersonate. If "
Redirected from User:Real page" appears under the page title, click onReal page. - When you are on their real user page, copy the url and go in edit mode on the wiki (e.g., edit as your normally would), or open a new window.
- Paste the full url in source code or the url space in your browser. You should notice if the url has different characters. For example:
- Their real user page is:
http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/User:Maria_%D0%A1aliban(it may appear normally in your browser) - The real Maria Caliban is :
http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/User:Maria_Caliban
- Their real user page is:
