Thanks to BioWare and EA, Wikia was given access to some sexy, hi-res Dragon Age images for us to use on the wiki. I've uploaded them, but since there is such a good community here, instead of just deciding where they should be displayed myself, I thought I'd let the community discuss the best places/pages to use them. If we get more images, I'll be sure to upload them and update this post. JoePlay (talk) 01:38, October 2, 2009 (UTC)
Oh my goodness that is amazing! Perhaps we should make a new background and headers? The Morrigan image must be used! --Selty 02:44, October 2, 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks Joe, BioWare and EA! They look great. I think SmokyEyes could work nicely on the Grey Wardens page and what did you have in mind for new background and headers Selty? I think with these images we could do something quite nice (RedDragonwith logo is my personal fav) and I would love to see one of these new pictures the front page. As to the Morrigan picture, she looks so different! I'm intrigued. Loleil 03:04, October 2, 2009 (UTC)
- EA would like to see some/most of these images being used on the wiki ASAP, so feel free to start adding them to any relevant pages. I used the hi-res logo to replace the one appearing on the main page. If you would like to have any of the images cropped, just leave a message on my talk page and I'll take care of it.
- Also, about a new skin - one of our guys (BladeBronson who designed the skin for The Vault and The Marvel Database, among others) is working with EA on a new custom skin that will go live on November 1st. I can't wait to see it. :-) JoePlay (talk) 20:07, October 5, 2009 (UTC)
- I just had an idea for a cool way to use this image. After scaling it down slightly and turning the opacity down to 10%, I re-uploaded it here. Then with the use of a line of CSS code, I used the image as a background for Morrigan's article, which I setup on a test page. Check it out at User:JoePlay/test. What do you think? JoePlay (talk) 20:55, October 5, 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm... I realized that the background image's filesize is quite large (2.1 MB) due to it being in png format (to preserve transparency), which may cause the article to be slow to load for some people. So I re-uploaded the image here as a jpg (only 83 KB) using a background color that matches the article's background color. See it in use at User:JoePlay/test2. Since this particular image will only be used as a background for Morrigan's article, I'd suggest using the jpg version to ensure that all visitors to the wiki will still be able to load it quickly enough, if you guys decide to use it of course. Joe, I am quite sure all of us are squealing with delight with whatever you do. However, a lot of these images are very hi res... which means longer loading times for slower internet connections. Can we give it a try anyhow? How do I go about applying it without breaking anything? --Selty 01:10, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
- We can do anything you want, as long as it's possible within the realms of CSS, javascript, wikicode, etc. What exactly is "it" that you're wanting to apply? JoePlay (talk) 20:55, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
- Wow! Who would have thought EA would be watching our little wiki? I'll add a couple of pics to the pages I mentioned before. I can't wait to see the new skin and love what you've done with the Morrigan picture. I have a slowish connection and didn't experience any significant lag looking at the test page so I'll leave the techno-savy people to put in action. Loleil 01:49, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
Is it possible to get an image with colored background instead of "Human-Ogre.png"? -- Snfonseka
- Of course. New version is Human-Ogre.jpg. If anyone has any other images you want to have edited, just let me know. JoePlay (talk) 20:23, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps we could have the blood dragon in the same style as Morrigan on the main page background? --Selty 01:47, October 7, 2009 (UTC)
- Good idea! Unfortunately it didn't work. I tried it, and due to the large Dragon Age ad on the right side of the main page, it caused the page to display as 3 columns and basically totally screw up the layout. (screenshot) I've seen a background image used on a main page before at a wiki that only has the horizontal banner ad, so it must be the large vertical ad that's the problem. Oh well. :-( Would you like to use the dragon image on a different page? JoePlay (talk) 21:02, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
I love the new Morrigan background. Can we do the same thing for other companions also? -- Snfonseka
- We can do it for any page as long as we have a large enough image of the person/creature/etc. JoePlay (talk) 21:02, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
- Pity about the main page not working out, but I would love to have it used on a high profile page. Although we don't have one yet maybe it's something we could keep in mind for a walkthrough page? I don't know if we have suitable images yet, but really like the the idea of doing a background for the other companions too. Loleil 00:32, October 9, 2009 (UTC)
I don't think we have any hi res screenshots/images of any other companions unfortunately. However the Grey Warden with the ogre could be a wonderful background for the Grey Warden page methinks! JoePlay thank you so much for your hard work it means so much to us :) --Selty 04:09, October 9, 2009 (UTC)
- Oooo I like the Grey Warden idea, and second the thanks! Loleil 11:19, October 9, 2009 (UTC)
Yea. But it will be better if we can get a coloured "ogre" rather than "black and white" one. or we can use "smokyeyes.png" instead of that. -- Snfonseka
- If it's going to be used as an opaque background image colour won't matter will it? Loleil 22:48, October 9, 2009 (UTC)
Not sure about that. :( -- Snfonseka
- Hmm, I think I'd go with Human-Ogre, to show the Grey Warden's link with darkspawn, but I like them both. Loleil 08:26, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
- Just a heads up - I added a darkened/opaque version of the Human-Ogre image as a background to Grey Wardens. JoePlay (talk) 20:43, October 15, 2009 (UTC)
