I'd like to make some changes for the codex entry page. There are some problems with codex entries—notably, sections and locations. Currently, the codex infobox combines everything together, which I do not think is all that user-friendly. It'll be more apparent when Dragon Age III is released.

The test pages are located at User:D-day/Ogre and User:D-day/Codex. Note that you may not see the actual changes, since it relies on CSS. As such, refer to this image to see how it will look on the default skin (for Monobook, the font is smaller like infoboxes).

The CSS code for those who want to see it live:

/* Infobox */
.daoinfobox { background: #131313 }
.daoinfobox td, .daoinfobox th { padding: 0px; }
.daoinfobox { border-collapse: separate; border-spacing: 2px 2px  }
.section { background: #131313; border-collapse: separate; border-spacing: 0px 2px; font-size: 110%; margin: -2px -2px -2px 0px }
.section td, .section th { padding: 0px }
.section td { border-left: 2px solid #131313 }

The parameters for the template are different, e.g., instead of section, it's section DAO and section DA2, etc. I'll update the documentation when this is implemented.

I had to make small aesthetic changes to the infobox in order to implement headers and sections within the infobox (which can be collapsible), without making coding too difficult. Besides the darker background instead of a transparent one, it's not that different.

Comments, suggestions? ··· D-day sig d·day! 17:18, May 13, 2012 (UTC)

All I can say after sorting out the codex for several days... that would be awesome!) Asherinka (talk) 19:37, May 13, 2012 (UTC)

Small bump for any comments or suggestions for the infobox (just in case I've missed something). I'll implement the changes after the weekend if there's no objection, and will update the codex entries accordingly. This may take a while since it has to be done manually for the most part. Codex entries will still display the information correctly in the meantime. ··· D-day sig d·day! 03:59, May 19, 2012 (UTC)

I can help you with the manual part if you'll tell me what to do. Asherinka (talk) 19:35, May 19, 2012 (UTC)

I already replied in chat, but as an update: I'll post a documentation when it's implemented and will update this thread on how to update it. Codex entries that appear in one game only will be updated by my bot, but if they appear in more than one game, this has to be edited manually.
I kind of forgot about the Orlesian Warden in Awakening (since they start with no codex entry), but I think it's fine to keep using the same parameters as DAO (as we do for Leliana's Song), and propose to just list in the same section if someone goes through the expansion and decides to add them. It'd be less complicated, especially with the other DLCs. ··· D-day sig d·day! 21:55, May 19, 2012 (UTC)

The templates are now updated (and hopefully I didn't break anything again). If you are seeing ugly infoboxes, make sure to clear your browser's cache. If something looks weird, please tell me!

Old parameters will still work (though non-existent on the documentation), but codex entries should transition to the new style. I'm also keeping appearances just in case. I was thinking of automatizing it, but I wasn't sure if I'd run in any problem. It's used for books and codex section pages.

The full documentation for individual codex entry has been updated, though I haven't proofread it, so there might some errors.

  • number should be number DAO
  • category may now be category DAO and/or category DA2 as it appears in-game, e.g., for a character in DA2, just type Character. The template will categorize it properly under the DA2 category rather than the DAO one.
  • location may now be location DAO and/or location DA2
  • updates may now be updates DAO and/or updates DA2
  • expansion DAO now exists. I know there's only one expansion, but this is just to keep the naming parameters consistent. It is necessary, as appearance should not appear if the template is used as intended.
  • dlc may now be dlc DAO and/or dlc DA2

There's no need for anything else to change. For codex section pages:

  • codexsummary should be codexsummaryDAO or codexsummaryDA2 (h2 headings)
  • codexsummary2 should be codexsummary2DAO or codexsummary2DA2 (h3 headings)

I have also added iconminiDA2, which can be used to make the correct icon appear for location and quest pages. It will automatically remove the border as it was meant to for DA2. However, I've realized it may look inconsistent with other icons (for example, DAO codex entries will always have a border and it will look mismatched on certain pages), so I was thinking of actually removing the borderless styling, but this would mean that we get rid of that style completely as to keep it consistent throughout the wiki, with the possibility of having the icon with a black background. All icons on Ogre do—except codex entries since the file for the codex entry's icon does not have a black background. Thoughts? ··· D-day sig d·day! 06:15, May 21, 2012 (UTC)

A lot of codex entries have been updated to the new style, except codex entries that appear in DAO and DA2. To know which codex entry has not been updated, you can check on the codex section page, e.g., Codex: Characters (Dragon Age II) (you need to check a previous version as that page may be updated). If the codex entry does not show up properly, it means it has been updated. ··· D-day sig d·day! 17:20, May 21, 2012 (UTC)

I forgot to give an update, but I believe most codex entries have been updated. I'll use this comment to shamelessly plug an old project on the wiki that I have sort of revived, Project Genitivi: Codex. I've recently added tables for a quick overview of all codex entries (see Characters for an example). This should make it easier to locate if the codex entry has not been updated yet with the new format yet, is missing a picture or an important information, etc. However, it's only for the infobox (transcluding the text and showing the categories may be too much), but I hope it helps nonetheless. :] ··· D-day sig d·day! 16:03, June 6, 2012 (UTC)
