Is anyone thrilled by one of the factoids that Bioware revealed about DA:A in their FAQ? Is anyone appalled?

It's still too early, I guess, to start drawing conclusions about what we will or won't see in the expansion. But just for venting purposes here's my two cents so far.

1) So the returning companion is definitely Oghren.

To paraphrase Alistair, "Great. I'm thrilled. No. Really." I mean I like Oghren well enough, but he wouldn't have been my first, second, or even my third choice for who I'd like to see more of in the expansion. Apparently he's there because he'll be important for plot purposes? Architect, Deep Roads, dwarves and so on. Okay.

Actually returning companion has to be Oghren for continuity as all other companions can die apart from Morrigan who will not be joining you for obvious reasons. Kat.195.93.21.104 02:41, February 16, 2010 (UTC)

2) No new romances. No continuation of old romances.

That's kind of disappointing. Especially the latter. I just hope it's referenced in-game as "Alistair/Leliana/Zevran is busy elsewhere," rather than "Alistair/Leliana/Zevran dumped your sorry ass off-camera apparently, and no mention will ever be made of it." (Of course no one will be wondering why Morrigan isn't still around.) It doesn't seem likely that Bioware would just drop all the romance plot threads and pretend they never existed, and yet, somehow I can't help but fear that's exactly what they'll do. I suppose I should be giving them more credit than that.

3) Your Warden can return from the dead, for no raisin!

...If you'll excuse the Futurama reference. The fact that you can now have your Warden survive without the Dark Ritual, without sacrificing Alistair or Loghain, and without any other explanation whatsoever makes the whole Ultimate Sacrifice seem kind of pointless now, doesn't it? But I guess it's not worth complaining about. Players who find the whole "I'm alive for no reason!" thing dumb don't have to do it. Players who don't care... won't care.

All in all, apparently it's mostly "jeers" from me. Hate to end on a negative note, though, so... um... 56 all-new abilities! Yay!

  • I was so excited when I heard that we could import our characters. But then - What's the point if you can't continue the storyline that you started? (romances, etc). And OGHREN of all NPCs.... D: However, I am very happy that we will be able to explore more of the world, and the new companions don't look so bad.... I'm torn. But I'm gonna play it anyway..crossing my fingers that some of the mods I've installed don't break the game somehow. Vavasor 00:36, February 15, 2010 (UTC)

You should be able to do the DLC at the same time as the rest of the story, this would let you keep your character, keep your companions and take new

ones into the normal campaign, keeping everything you have. (It should be like the "Shivering Isles" DLC for Oblivion. free to come and go between both stories.)

I guess we will have to wait and see what its going to be like but I think that having two seperate stories is a bad move. >=(

You forgot the last part.
4) Your DLC items will not be imported.
Although all the basic items in the base game DA:O will carry over into DA:A, apparently it is not acceptable to transfer the content in the DLC. Moooooo! (That's us being milked.) --Azuarc 07:32, February 15, 2010 (UTC)

Well, I didn't so much forget about the "no DLC" as it's not one of my biggest concerns. I figure we'll be getting more and better items in the expansion anyway. Still... NOOOOO STARFANG!!! I use that sword with every single one of my Wardens except for my mage. What will I dual wield with the Keening Blade, now? (And to add insult to injury, in the one file where my Warden isn't using Starfang, I had given it to... Oghren. The irony!)DarkAger 20:51, February 15, 2010 (UTC)

  • The difference between Awakening and Shivering Isles is that SI was completely unrelated to the events of the Daedric Invasion of the main storyline. It didn't matter when you visited the Shivering Isles because it had absolutlely zero effect on how the main plot played out. Awakenings starts after the Archdemon has been defeated and you are travelling to Amaranthine to start rebuilding the Order. It would make absolutely no sense to be able to go back and forth between DA:O and DA:A as it would completely destroy the timeline and story. - Myalzalean

Besides which, being able to see what happens after the Archdaemon is defeated is one of the things I'm most excited about for the expansion. I wouldn't want it to be some seperate and unconnected world that you could travel to like Shivering Isles was. Much as I loved Shivering Isles and all.DarkAger 20:51, February 15, 2010 (UTC)

Unless we could find a prince with a magical dagger. :) Warden Of The Dales 14:16, February 15, 2010 (UTC)

I think now it's up to us people to make the DLC work in the Awakening, this is very possible. it is possible, it is not impossible. It's soooo possible. They just need to create all those armor and items from the Tool set, just like what they did for Warden Commander Shield, Winter Elf Armor, that Tidus's sword from Final Fantasy, etc. With the codes we now have from the DAO's DLC, it shouldn't be hard to extract all those items into the newly made DAA DLC? what do you guys think? we should totally start this project right now so it will be finished intime for the Awakening, just use the Toolset to make a DLC which contains all DLC items so people can just pick through them at the beginning once they start the Awakening, if i have a Toolset i'd get on it already but i dont.

Look here, if people can create something as Beautiful as this, it shouldn't be any problem with just importing all the DLC items code from the DLCs so these items would still contain the same graphic and stats, combine them into 1 DLC which will automatically put all these DLC items into the party inventory and maybe another 5,000 gold to go with these items just to give us a little head start, you know? just a little bit ;) yeeesssss just a little bit ;)

  • I have that mod (its great). There is already a mod on dragonagenexus.com that duplicates all the DLC items (not including Return to Ostagar AFAIK) for those who didn't wish to purchase it. They just have different names. Vavasor 17:16, February 15, 2010 (UTC) EDIT: Here is the replicated DLC mod link: http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=200

wow that's awesome, could you give me the direct link plz @@? Id like to fav it right now. Fycan [fahy-kan] @ 17:19, February 15, 2010 (UTC)

About the romances, this was posted on bioware forums by a lead writer:

"Just regarding those asking about the romances, by "not continue" it just means you don't have a chance to actively continue the relationship during the course of this adventure. It does not mean that you mysteriously broke up or that the romance is not recognized to exist. I would have liked to have cameos by everyone, but that simply wasn't possible. As it is, you may find some treats awaiting you -- recognizing past decisions can be done in small ways, as well as large (and this applies to things outside of romances, as well)."\

Okay good to know. But what about Shale? I know they said no DLC but she's a character with her own ending and she goes off with Wynne. They said Wynne has a cameo, so what about Shale Riley7 18:53, February 15, 2010 (UTC)

Oh, sweet! That thing about romances not mysteriously vanishing just made my day. Thanks for setting my mind at ease. As for Shale, since Wynne has a cameo, maybe she'll mention what happened to the golem. Ha, it'd be pretty funny if one of the new companions (if not in this expansion, then sometime down the road) is a mysterious, ill-tempered dwarf woman who turns out to be a un-golemified Shale.DarkAger 20:51, February 15, 2010 (UTC)

That shouldn't be possible, some people - like me, don't have the Stone Prisoner, so if they start talking about Shale in the Awakening, those people would go like "& who's she?" Fycan [fahy-kan] @ 08:47, February 16, 2010 (UTC)
