Questioning Beliefs is an Act 3 companion quest for Aveline in Dragon Age II.

Acquisition[]

The quest becomes available at 100% friendship or rivalry, as long as you completed the Act 2 quest The Long Road.

Walkthrough[]

The conversation is different for a friend and a rival:

  • If Hawke has a 100% friendship with Aveline, she says she received word from Ferelden. The letter states that she was mistakenly declared dead and would be given her old rank and title back if she returned to Ferelden. She strings Hawke along for a bit, making them think she is leaving to go back to Ferelden, but by the end she reaffirms her support and commitment to Hawke and their cause and plans to see it finished.
  • If Hawke has a 100% rivalry with Aveline, they have the option of accusing her of being a coward that is running away from her responsibilities of protecting her men. Unlike at Ostagar however, Hawke tells Aveline that she doesn't have the darkspawn as an excuse and is simply giving up. This results in Aveline throwing Hawke to the floor and beating them. She remarks that she's glad they pushed her to the edge and remains determined to stand by their side. Choosing other options results in Aveline saying that she is through with Hawke (though she does not leave as a companion).

Notes[]

  • If Isabela is no longer in the party in Act 3, Varric will be telling a joke to Aveline and sharing a bottle with her before Hawke arrives.

Bugs[]

  • Aveline refers to the current "King" of Ferelden even if a save where Anora was made sole ruler was imported.
  • Aveline's shield disappears in the middle of the final cutscene.
  • Aveline may mention the Queen being displeased by the company the King keeps even if Alistair is sole ruler.
