Omens is a basic action card in Dragon Age: The Last Court. Not all associated actions are available every draw. This is An Eventful Week card.

Description[]

"Serault is busy with portents, today. She has always attracted the uncommon and the unnatural. Things creep into the Applewoods from the sibilant depths of the Tirashan, and the moonlit Mysteries of the Masked Andraste are still practiced here. And there's me, of course..."

- the Shame of Serault

Which omen attracts your attention?

Available actions[]

1.

A visitation of ravens
They arrived one at a time, each hour bringing another black-winged visitor. Now, a rustling host roosts on the battlements of the Heron Tower, just above your window.

Result: Inconsiderate guests
Their dawn councils croak you awake. Their waste stains the tower walls. What do the damn things want?
+2 Twilight
Wheeling Crows

2.

A sudden storm
An hour ago the sky was sapphire-blue, and the sun hard and hot as baked bronze. Now, black clouds boil overhead, impaling Serault Town on silver spits of lightning.

Result: Alone
Grey sheets of rain hide both banks of the river from your sight. The château is all that remains in a world of pouring water. A clap of thunder shakes stones from the Tilted Tower. The dogs howl. The storm blusters all through the night, departing reluctantly with the dawn.
+2 Peril
The Storm

3.

Whispers in the woods
You feel it the next time you go hunting. An uneasiness in the woods. Swallowing silence, broken by stirring leaves, though the wind is dead as a gallows-corpse.

Result: A wind from another world
It's not spoken of openly, but every Seraultine knows that old, forgotten things dwell in the woods. From time to time they must be treated with, or driven back.
+2 Twilight
The Whispering Woods

4.

Maleficarum!
Your Weary Bailiff waits until you've cleared the hall before bringing the peasant forward. His brown eyes are round with fear.

Result: Signs of sorcery
The peasant is cagey about his reasons for being so deep in the woods. That marks him as poacher, but his discovery outweighs his crime. 'A cave, your grace: reeking with blood and filled with all manner of deviltry!'
You call for your horse.
Maleficarum

5.

Attend the rites of the Masked Andraste
(Requires 100 Twilight to unlock)
The forest is stirring, the note reads in a relaxed, cursive script. Join us in the grove beyond the thundered oak, three nights hence. The Masked Andraste will quench its hunger.
If you succeed you will lose Twilight and gain Viands.
Difficulty: Woods-wise*1

Success: The Mysteries
On the third night you don your antlered mask and ride into the woods. The disciples of the Masked Andraste await you, clad in chantry habits and black masks of charred wood. Their idol is an ancient wooden statue hung in the boughs of a slumping oak. Perhaps the face beneath its mask is that of Andraste. Perhaps it is best not to look too closely.
Their leader approaches you. She is masked like the others, but you recognise the calm smile and gentle fingers that press to your lips. 'There are no names here.' the Elegant Abbess whispers. 'No faces. Only old ways, and a bargain kept.'
The moon is dark, the firelight coy. You witness the rites in flickering glimpses. The stag, trussed to a pole. The arrowhead, bronze and bright. The priestess' mouth, red in the night.
When the ceremony is done, the leaves of the forest sigh like a lover and are still. The disciples bow to you and depart. In the days that follow Serault becomes a cornucopia of woodland bounty. Sweet fruit, nuts and game flow to your hall.

Failure: You don your antlered mask...
You ride into the woods as they writhe and groan under a booming western wind. The trees are alive with night-shadows. In a grove, figures wrapped in chantry robes await you. Their eyes are afraid behind their black masks. Their leader - somehow familiar - is already deep in desperate prayer beneath the limbs of an ancient oak. A wooden icon hangs amidst the leaves above her. It has foxfur hair and a mask that hides all its face save for a mocking smile.
The wind rages. A tree topples. Wood splinters. There is a loud braying, and the sound of fleeing hooves. 'The offering!' the disciples cry. More trees begin to lean, dangerously. The ceremony is abandoned, the disciples fleeing the forest's spite.
