Aravel

The Aravel is a Dalish caravan.

Background[]

Aravels are used by the nomadic Dalish elves as mobile housing and storage. They are pulled by animals called halla, who are treated as honored companions. The clan Keepers use their magic to make it possible for the aravels to fly above the trees, as the Dalish move through the forests on foot.^[1]^[2] Aravels consist of ornately carved wagons, adorned with bright and colorful silk hoods that look like sails, earning aravels the nickname "landships" by humans.

Because there are usually several or more aravels per Dalish clan, and because their bright sails make them easy to spot, most humans consider the aravels' approach a warning and flee the area. As the Chantry criminalized the elven faith and Andrastian humans routinely attack them or Chantry members threaten them to convert,^[3] the Dalish are nomadic. ^[4] Dalish elves are not known to be friendly to outsiders, especially humans.^[2]
