Hafter is a legendary Alamarri warrior, the first man to be named teyrn. More than half of the noble houses in Ferelden claim lineage from him.[1]

Background[]

Hafter was said to be the son of another legendary hero, Dane.[5] In 1:40 Divine, during the Second Blight, Hafter united the Alamarri to drive back the darkspawn[6] that emerged from the Deep Roads.[7][8][9]

Hafter was said to be the greatest warrior of his time.[8]

Though the Alammari were weakened from fighting the darkspawn, in 1:50 Hafter repelled the invading force of the Avvar and Chasind who allied together to take advantage of the situation. Many battles were fought on both fronts, ultimately driving the enemy tribes deep into their respective territories: the Avvar into the Frostback Mountains, and the Chasind into the Korcari Wilds. Hafter's victories earned him great respect from the Alamarri, and he was named the first teyrn. The Alamarri had cemented their position as the dominant tribe in the Fereldan Valley.[1][2][5][7][10]

Hafter ruled the Alamarri lands in peace for many years. It is said that one day he took his blade and sailed east into the Amaranthine Ocean. He was not seen again.[2][5][7]

Hafter ruled for over 30 years, protecting the valley from the darkspawn incursions. Then he and his first son disappeared, allegedly sailing east of the Amaranthine Ocean. They were never heard from again.[2]

Hafter's wife, Teyrna Isulde, began ruling the Fereldan Valley in his place. She won a civil war to retain Hafter's legacy.[2]
