Background Edit

Before her ascension to Divine, Justinia V was known as Dorothea, an Orlesian Revered Mother. Divine Beatrix III was killed by a stroke in 9:34 Dragon, and as tradition dictated, left behind the name of her preferred successor: Dorothea. Dorothea was elected Divine, though with some controversy among the Grand Clerics, due to her colourful past.[1]

Involvement Edit

Leliana's Song Edit

for Leliana's Song.

She is first introduced in the Leliana's Song DLC for Dragon Age: Origins as Revered Mother Dorothea. A high-ranking member of the Orlesian Chantry, she was seduced by Marjolaine who then stole a set of secret documents from her which could potentially start a new war between Orlais and Ferelden.

She assists Leliana in escaping Commander Harwen Raleigh by supplying her with a key to her cell door and a knife. After Leliana's escape, she asks her to retrieve the stolen secret papers from Marjolaine and provides Leliana with both further information and advice. This includes the location of Marjolaine and Raleigh. Finally she serves as a source of inspiration to her, motivating Leliana to dedicate herself to the Maker's cause.

In 9:37 Dragon, following a string of small mage revolts, Justinia V dispatched a trusted agent in Kirkwall to gather information on the threat. After assessing the situation and assassinating threats, the agent passed along the Divine's message to the Champion of Kirkwall. She told them that Kirkwall was no longer a safe place for Grand Cleric Elthina, and that she must flee to the Grand Cathedral in Val Royeaux. The Grand Cleric declined to accept the Divine's offer, which led to her becoming the first casualty of the Mage-Templar War (her death was arguably the trigger).

Three years later, Justinia sent a contingent of Seekers to Kirkwall to locate the Champion of Kirkwall, as they were present during the events during and leading up to the outbreak of the war.

Dragon Age: Asunder Edit

Justinia had undertaken projects to try and find ways to bridge gaps between the Mages and the Chantry - as represented by the Templars. To this end, she had quietly commanded a Tranquil named Pharamond to begin researching ways to accomplish a similar objective of protecting weaker Mages from Demons without the costs associated with becoming Tranquil. Arch-Mage Wynne kept tabs on Pharamond's progress. In 9:38 Dragon, Wynne learned that Pharamond had become possessed by a demon - an action theoretically impossible for a Tranquil. Over the course of the following months, Justinia gave Wynne the authority to rescue the man, and attempted to plot a course to use his knowledge to try and cool the conflict brewing between the Mages and the Templars and find a middle path. Grand Enchanter Fiona of the Mages and Lord Seeker Lambert of the Templars, however, drove a confrontation that resulted in the death of a number of Templars and senior Enchanters, while the rest of the mages including Fiona were incarcerated. Justinia aided in their rescue by dispatching her agent, Leliana, and summoning Lambert to her side to distract him at a critical time. The Mages, once freed, revolted in the White Spire, destroying their phylacteries and killing all the Templar guards. After regrouping at Andoral's Reach, they renounced their ties to the Chantry, which prompted Lord Lambert, seeing the Divine's earlier actions as breach of the Nevarran Accord, to similarly renounce the ties of the Templars and the Seekers of Truth.

Trivia Edit

  • In Leliana's Song, Justinia, then Revered Mother Dorothea, states that her temple is in Orlais, and that she is in Ferelden without sanction. [2]
  • Divine Justinia's voice actor, Kath Soucie, is also the voice actor of Marjolaine. Additionally, she is known for playing the twins Phil and Lil on Nickelodeon's Rugrats and Cubert Farnsworth from Futurama.
  • Given her past, and her dealings with the bards of Orlais during the events of Leliana's Song, Justinia V is reputed to be potentially one of the finest players of The Grand Game.[3]
