Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening (mentioned only) | ||
Dane is a legendary Alamarri hero who was believed to be Hafter's foster-father. No-one knows how many stories told about Dane are true, but one thing that is certain is that there was once an Allamarri warrior named Dane.
His adventuries are shrouded in mystery. One of his legends says that he has owned a pack of wolves, from which mabari have descended, although it this one is most likely untrue as the mabari were created by the Tevinters. Dane is also credited with killing a dragon, and orchestrating a major campaign against werewolves, which dramatically reduced the werewolf threat in the Alamarri lands. According to The Saga of Dane, he was also a werewolf for a period of time.
The River Dane in Ferelden, which is perhaps most known these days for being the place where the rebel forces of King Maric under the command of Loghain defeated two Orlesian Legions, is named after the same hero.
Notes
Edit
In all there are two swords in-game which are attributed to have belonged to Dane. The first is Yusaris found in Dragon Age: Origins. The second is The Winter Blade, found in Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening. Of the two it is likely that the Winter Blade was one of the swords he used earlier, and got the Yusaris later, after killing the dragon.
Trivia
Edit
- The character may have been inspired by the Tamora Pierce character Veralidaine (Daine) Sarrasri, who had an affinity for wolves.
- Dane may have been inspired by the ancient poem Beowulf, in which the eponymous hero was the King of the Danes.
- In Awakening, the statue of war in the Wending Woods tells you an Alamarri named Dane was one who had slain the Tevinter magister before but cannot tell you if it is the same Dane from legend for certain as he does not know their legends.
