A chest is a common storage cabinet in the Dragon Age franchise. Some chests are locked and you will need either a key or sufficient lockpick skill to open them. Rogues are the only class who have been known to have the lockpicking skills necessary to unlock chests in the franchise.
Dragon Age: Origins Edit
In Dragon Age: Origins with default settings, objects like chests shimmer when they contain something you can loot. Rogues invested in the Deft Hands talent tree can unlock locked chests for loot and experience.
Dragon Age II Edit
In Dragon Age II, rogues are the only ones able to open locked chests for loot and experience. The efficiency of their lockpicking skill is determined by rogue's Cunning: standard chests (first appear in Act 1) require 20 Cunning, complex (Act 2) – 30, and master (Act 3) – 40.
Each item with Bonus to lockpicking equipped by the rogue increases their Cunning for the purposes of lockpicking by 50%. For example, a rogue with Band of Stolen Shadows will be able to open standard chests at 14 Cunning, complex at 20, and master at 27.
Dragon Age: Inquisition Edit
In Dragon Age: Inquisition, all chests are unlocked and don't require the skills of a rogue to open.
