Chasind Wilders

The Chasind Wilders are a tribe of humans living within the Korcari Wilds. Notably, they are one of the few human groups encountered who are not believers in the Chantry or any of the teachings of Andraste.
They arrived in the Korcari Wilds as part of the Alamarri peoples, and took part in the Allamarri's war with Tevinter Imperium. Ostagar was built by the Magisters to keep an eye out for the Chasind barbarians coming out of the forest.
Some time after they settled in the Wilds, they left the main tribe and started a civil war with their lowlander brothers over the control of Fereldan Valley. The civil war was not ended until Hafter defeated a Chasind leader following the Second Blight. Since then, the Chasind rarely leave the swamps.
The Chasind are viewed by many Fereldans as primitive people, mired in superstition and still clinging to the ways of their shamans. They live in houses built on stilts, travelers tell, and fear the mythic Witches of the Wilds who threaten to pounce on their children. The Chasind also say that a wasteland of snow and ice waits further to the south, filled only with desolate tundra and nomadic barbarians, but the northerners believe little of what the Chasind tell them.
