Almadrius was the Archon of the Tevinter Imperium from -760 Ancient to -692 Ancient.[1]

Background

Soon after Almadrius took the throne of Archon, he built himself a great summer palace near the Eyes of Nocen. The palace was considered one of the greatest wonders of the world, and many of Almadrius' jealous rivals hatched plots to burn it to the ground. To protect it from attacks, Almadrius stationed one hundred soldiers on permanent guard, all sworn to only serve the archon himself, their oaths sealed with blood. By the time the civil war that had started with Almadrius' assassination finally ended, both the palace and the centurions had disappeared without a trace.[2]

Almadrius took Tidarion, a lowborn mage of Planasene blood as his apprentice, which caused great outrage among the Magisterium. The magisters believed that magic was a favor of the Old Gods rather than an accident of birth, and refused to acknowledge the mage underclass of elves and newly liberated foreigners. Almadrius had many rivals, and though he survived many assassination attempts, none of his Altus apprentices did. When Almadrius himself was finally assassinated by the magisters, Tidarion was the only remaining heir. The civil war that ensued lasted for over seventy years, and ended only when Archon Parthenius finally admitted the Laetans to the temples and gave them three seats in the Magisterium.[3]
